October 17, 2022
Happy Monday as we begin the second half of October at Beal. This upcoming Wednesday we will come together as a Beal Community to celebrate our October All School Meeting. During this time together, we will center our discussions around our October trait of kindness. All of our classrooms at Beal have read Be Kind by Pat Zietlow Miller. This was such an excellent selection by our Grade 3 Team this month and we will be learning more about it during our meeting this week!
Sincerely,
Chris Girardi and Shelley Hoey

Information from your Beal Nurses: Vision and Hearing Screenings
Dear Beal Families,
We will be completing vision and hearing screenings in the nurses’ office for all students soon. If your child wears glasses, please make sure they bring them to school. You will receive a referral letter from the nurse if your child does not pass either of the screenings.
Thank you, and please contact us if you have any questions!

Parent MCAS Reports
Parents/Caregivers of current 4th grade students will receive a printed MCAS report that provides information about your child's performance on the Grade 3 MCAS last spring. These reports will be sent home in your child's backpack on Thursday, October 20th.
As a reminder, MCAS information provides teams and schools with information that helps us identify areas of strength and needed improvement in our curriculum and core instruction. It also helps teachers and parents identify areas of strength and instructional focus for individual students. The MCAS is one of many data points that teams use to gauge our students' learning progress. The MCAS does not factor into promotion to the next grade level.

Beal Fall Scholastic Book Fair
It’s that time of year again—the Scholastic Book Fair is here! We have brought back this much loved, fan favorite for another year. Our shelves will be jam-packed with books and we can’t wait to have the students visit to find their next favorite book!
Starting this week, from October 17-26, students will visit our Scholastic Book Fair with their classrooms and will make wishlists and have a chance to shop! Your student will bring home their wishlist, a Scholastic flyer and additional info on how to order. If you would like to make a purchase, please return the wish list with payment no later than Tuesday October 25th.
Worried about sending money into school with your student to shop? We hear you! EWallet is a convenient, cash free, hassle free way for your student to shop or for volunteers to fill your book orders! Visit our fair website at https://www.scholastic.com/bf/bealschool to set up your EWallet or access the online store.
Titles sell out fast, so shop early for the best selection! If something is out of stock, a volunteer will help your student select a different book.
We are looking for volunteers to come in and help students make wishlists, fill book orders and keep our shelves filled!
Beal Scholastic Book Fair Volunteer Opportunities
Families can order books in a variety of ways:
1. Send us an email at bealschoolpto@gmail.com by end of the day Tuesday October 25th and send in payment via ewallet (preferred to make it easy for everyone!), cash (in an envelope or baggie labeled with your student name/teacher), or check made out to Beal PTO with student name/teacher in the memo line. Don’t forget to add 6.25% for tax!
2. Send your student back to school with their wish list and we will shop with them! Make sure to send in payment either via ewallet, cash or check and include 6.25% for tax.
3. Order from the online fair by Sunday October 30th--orders will ship directly from Scholastic.
4. Shop together at our Scholastic Family Shopping Day, Saturday October 22nd! More details below.
Beal’s Scholastic Book “Fair-ly Fun Day”
Come join us on Saturday October 22nd from 10am-1pm for Beal’s Scholastic Book “Fair-ly Fun Day”. Come for the books, stay for some fun! We will have the Book Fair open and ready to shop, as well as a StoryWalk®, games and activities set up on the lawn. KidStrong gym will be there getting families moving, and there will even be some treats and a visit from Kona Ice!
Have some time to help? We are also looking for volunteers for our Saturday shopping day! We have opportunities inside the Fair or outside with activities!
