Principal's Message
We're another week closer to spring and warmer weather and things are beginning to look brighter. The Rhode Island Principals' Committee on Athletics has added two additional sports to its lineup for the spring, cross country and soccer, and sign up information can be found below. I will have more information regarding baseball, softball, and wrestling over the next few weeks. Thank you to all the members of the community for the support you have shown our student athletes and your understanding regarding the restrictions placed on us.
The month of March also signals the beginning of the scheduling process for our rising 9th graders. Mrs. Clifford, Ms. Nappi, and Mrs. Maduro-Antonio have been working collaboratively with the MHHS staff to provide a smooth transition for our 8th graders. Please see the important information below concerning the scheduling process.
We are now in the planning stages for state testing known as RICAS. We are making detailed arrangements to have all of our students participate in this very important assessment. More information will be forthcoming.
I have included information below regarding sign-ups for free and reduced lunch and breakfast. Please take a moment to fill out the forms, even if you think that you may not qualify. It's important to our school community. Additionally, there's still time to participate in the SurveyWorks! family survey.
Take a look below at the new information in the community update section, especially regarding the Middle School Book Award
Have a great week,

SurveyWorks Family Survey
Dear Parents:
The Rhode Island Department of Education is currently administering its annual SurveyWorks Family Survey, which is an opportunity for family members to provide feedback about our school community and our children’s opportunities to learn. The survey results are most useful when all families participate, so I am writing to ask you to participate in this survey.
Your views on matters like the safety of your child at school, the way students are taught, the condition of the school, and how connected you feel to this school are important. By taking this short survey, you can help our school leadership and school community to make improvements. Responses are anonymous and cannot be linked to any individual; no one can tie your responses back to you.
You can take the short survey online now thru March 31. To take the survey, visit bit.ly/ridefamily . Choose your school from the dropdown list.
Our goal is to have 250 families participate! If we meet that goal, each family will be put into a drawing for one of the four Swarovski-Touchstone Crystal gifts. The drawing will take place the week of April 5th.
Thank you,
Frank DeVall

Sesame Street in Communities (SSIC) Workshop Series
Rhode Island PBS Education Services is excited to announce the Sesame Street in Communities (SSIC) Workshop Series! Presented in both English & Spanish, in collaboration with RI Kids Count, Massachusetts Strategies for Children and RI & MA SEIU Education and Support Fund, SSIC’s goal is to support parents, caregivers and community providers with FREE tools and resources from Sesame Street that help increase successful outcomes for children, both in school and in life. Participants receive a complimentary Sesame Street care package, along with a certificate for PD hours, approved by the Center for Early Learning Professionals.
This workshop is intended for adult caregivers, parents and guardians, not for participation by children. Please register for either our English or Spanish sessions. Project made possible with generous support from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB.)
Rhode Island Virtual Tutoring
Our names are Julia Hasseltine and Eli Weisbord and we are two RI high school students who recently created Rhode Island Virtual Tutoring (RIVT.) Our vision for RIVT is to organize and provide free one on one weekly tutoring sessions between high school tutors and younger students, giving older RI students an opportunity to share their knowledge. We hope to create a network of students of all ages around the state of Rhode Island. Tutoring in all of the general elementary level courses and many middle school classes will be offered at the program’s launch.
The two of us are extremely excited to share this project and we hope that the program continues to grow until we can ensure that no motivated student is left without the resources they need to thrive intellectually. Please pass this on to anyone whom you feel could benefit from this opportunity!
Plant a Tree
The Mt. Hope High School Environmental Club has partnered with the nonprofit organization, TreePlenish. We are hosting an event to offset the paper usage at the high school by planting trees. You can order trees through our website. We will deliver (Bristol and Warren residents only) and plant the sapling on May 1st (adhering to all Covid-19 protocols). If you’d prefer to pick up your tree (or live outside of Bristol or Warren), that’s an option as well. You can learn more about the 2 species of trees we are offering, to ensure you have the right space and environment for the tree, by visiting our website. We appreciate your support as we work to build a more sustainable future.
Place your orders by 4/1/2021 though our website:

Free Tutoring Opportunity Launching with Schoolhouse.world
Schoolhouse.world is a new online platform from Sal Khan, the founder of Khan Academy, that matches students around the world with free tutors. The tutors provide small-group math and SAT prep tutoring for students in grades 6-12, building on the Khan Academy curriculum. Rhode Island is one of two state-level partnerships offering this opportunity to students across the state. Registration is now live on the All Course Network (ACN) and students can sign up here on EnrollRI. There is no deadline for students to sign up (though schools will still need to approve their enrollment via the ACN), no cost to LEAs or students, and no requirement to participate. Please help us spread the word to your students, teachers, parents, and communities! More information on the partnership can be found here.
