Evolution of Communication

With advances in human knowledge and technology, means of communication have evolved over time. The use of speech in order to convey feelings or ideas was the first means of communication. The next were cave drawings (30000 BC) and petroglyphs (10000 BC). Cave drawings are paintings inside of caves that told stories of culture while petroglyphs are created by removing the upper layer or rock through carving. The next was the pictogram, which is a symbol representing an idea or an object (9000 BC). The final means, before our alphabet, is the ideogram, which symbolizes an idea "without indicating the sounds used to say it" (garzahighschool.net).
