Listeria
Listeria is bacteria found in soil, water, and some animals, including poultry and cattle. It also be found in raw milk and foods made from raw milk. It can grow even in the cold temperature of the refrigerator. It is killed by cooking and pasteurization.
Some Listeria Sources
- Deli meats and hot dogs
- Raw milk and dairy products
- Refrigerated smoked seafood
- Meat spreads
Prevention for Listeria
- Do not drink raw milk
- Wash hands, knives, countertops, and cutting boards
- Keep uncooked meats, poultry, and seafood separate from vegetables
- Thoroughly cook raw food
