September Owl's Nest
September 2021
Dear Eagle Rock Elementary Community,
It is with great pleasure that I write this letter to you as the incoming principal of Eagle Rock Elementary School. It is truly an honor to become a part of the Eagle Point School District. Even though I have only had limited interactions with the faculty and parents thus far, I can already tell that it is a unique and special place that I am incredibly excited to become a part of.
I come to you with 15 years of experience as an educator; however I come from a family of educators, so I have been around this profession all of my life. I spent 7 years teaching students with disabilities as well as managing an alternative education program. Most recently I have served as a Middle School and High School Principal for the Colton School District
I spent the summer preparing for this position as well as transitioning my 3 children and wife to beautiful Southern Oregon. I will get to know our building, our community, and familiarize myself with the unique needs of our school. I believe wholeheartedly that every student deserves a quality education and that only happens when the school and the families work together for the best interests of our children. With that in mind I will be calling on all of our faculty, staff, and parents to work as a singular unit so we can best serve our children.
I am truly honored to be given this opportunity and look forward to immersing myself completely in our school and in our community. I believe my main responsibility is to put our teachers in the best possible position to succeed, as they will in turn put our children in the best possible position to succeed. I look forward to meeting all of you and please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, concerns, or ideas you would like to share.
Best Regards,
Grant Hayball
Principal

August 25, 2021 Letter from Superintendent Andy Kovach:
Greetings, Eagle Point School District Community and Families,
The Governor directed the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) and the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) to write a rule requiring face coverings indoors for public and private school settings for all K-12 students and staff during the 2021-2022 school year. Students learn best when they are able to attend school in-person. Oregon is placing a priority on ensuring that every student is able to attend school in-person for the entire school year.
OAR 333-019-1025, mandates all students to wear a mask indoors. Eagle Point School District 9 will be following the mandate and require a mask for every staff member, volunteer, parent and student while in our schools. A student may have an exception to the rule written in their Special Education Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or families can provide a completed physician’s EPSD9 Face-Shield Form to their school for consideration. Oftentimes, when documentation is provided, face shields can be approved medical exceptions to a mask. Our online school, URCEO, is available for those families who choose not to wear a mask.
We thank you for supporting student education through these challenging times.
Andy Kovach
Superintendent
The prepared Eagle Rock Owl will have a backpack with a reusable water bottle and an extra mask. Thank you to our Eagle Rock families for always setting your student up for success! Please have your student bring their school supplies on the first day of school. Contact the school office if purchasing school supplies is a hardship for your family.
