Back To School Edition 2021-2022
Welcome to the 2021-2022 School Year!
Rogers Families,
We are ready to welcome all students back this Wednesday, August 11. It was wonderful seeing everyone at schedule pick up and our annual t-shirt delivery. I hope that everyone finds the information in this newsletter helpful, but please never hesitate to reach out to the campus if you have any questions. The main campus phone number is 469.219.2150. I want to remind everyone that our start and end times have changed slightly this year. School will begin at 8:15 and end at 3:30. The doors to campus will open at 7:15 for students to enter.
We all feel the anticipation and excitement for this year! Thank you for entrusting us with your most prized possessions. We do not take that lightly.
I look forward to seeing you on campus or at a student activity in the near future.

Attendance Policy For PISD Students
- Parents should notify the school the morning their child will be absent. Beginning in the 2021-22 school year, all absence notifications and notes will be submitted electronically. Parents will notify the campus of a student’s absence through Skyward Family Access. This will replace calling or emailing the campus attendance clerk to notify the school of the student’s absence. Additionally, this electronic documentation satisfies the signed parent note requirement (state required documentation). When an absence request is submitted through Skyward Family Access, the attendance clerk/registrar will be notified by email. Please look for additional information on how to login to Skyward Family Access and submit an absence request in future back to school communication.
- When a student returns from an absence at a doctor's office, a signed doctor’s note displaying the date on which the student was seen in the office must be sent to the school attendance email within 2 days of the absence. The parent indication that the student was at the doctor will not qualify as a doctor's note.
- Parents will be allowed to electronically submit (through Skyward submission) a total of only 5 absence notes during the school year. Once you have exceeded this maximum, all absences will be considered unexcused. A list of acceptable absences (those that will be excused) are listed in the Student Handbook.
- If a student is absent for more than 5 consecutive days due to illness, a parent note will not be accepted. A statement from a doctor or medical clinic explaining the reason for the absence must be submitted to the school attendance email upon their return to school.
- If your child leaves during the day for a doctor or dentist appointment, a doctor’s note must be submitted electronically to the school attendance email on the same day or the next morning in order for the absence(s) to be considered “medical”.
What to do if my child forgot something? (lunch, homeowork, etc.)
My Child Lost an Item at School. What Should I Do?
Lost and Found is located outside the theatre room. Please encourage your child to visit it regularly while they are at lunch. Be sure to write your child’s name on all of their personal items! All unclaimed Lost and Found items are donated at the end of each nine weeks.

2021 Congressional App Challenge Submissions due Monday, November 1, 2021
Dear Friends, I'm excited to announce the 2021 Congressional App Challenge is now underway for students of Texas' Third Congressional District! The Congressional App Challenge provides a great opportunity for innovative middle school and high school students to put their skills to work on any platform and in any programming language they desire to create their own app. The winning apps from Congressional Districts around the country are eligible to be featured in the U.S. Capitol Building and on the Congressional App Challenge website, and winning students will be invited to a House of Code Capitol Hill Reception in Washington, D.C. All high school and middle school students in Texas' Third Congressional District are welcome to participate either as individuals or in teams of up to four, to create and submit their own software app for mobile, tablet, or other computing devices on a platform of their choice.
To participate, students must register online and submit their apps before 11:00 AM CST on Monday, November 1, 2021. For more information about the Congressional App Challenge, or to register, please visit my website. There is no doubt we have many innovative and talented students right here in Texas’ Third Congressional District, and I look forward to seeing this year’s submissions! Semper Fi,
