Cedar Grove Friday Flash
June 10, 2022
Dear Cedar Grove Families,
It's finished! Our completed mural, designed and created by our talented artist and art teacher, Mrs. Annie Kim, looks absolutely beautiful! Many thanks to Mrs. Kim for devoting many hours to turn an idea into this amazing work of art!
It's hard to believe the last day of school is next Friday, June 17! Please note it is an early release day, and we will be dismissing at 1:20 p.m.
We are hoping you can help us spread the word to parents of the importance of registering their child for kindergarten by or before June 30 rather than waiting until later in the summer. In order to maintain smaller kindergarten class sizes and our three kindergarten classrooms for the coming school year, we are asking if you could please share the following information with the parents of your child's friends who will also be coming to Cedar Grove for kindergarten but have not yet registered. Please feel free to share an information flyer at this link. Parents are welcome to come to the school for assistance in registering their child if needed or they can register online by clicking here. If parents don't have all the documents yet, they can still register and provide any needed information later. We hope you will help us spread our message, "Don't Delay - Register Today" to anyone you know who has a child of kindergarten age who may not have registered yet. We thank you in advance for your help.
Parents of students in Grade 3 and 5, your feedback is important to us! The Montgomery County Public Schools Office of Shared Accountability is conducting a survey of families who have a student in Grade 3 or 5 attending a Leader in Me school. You should have received an email on May 26, 2022 that included the subject Leader in Me Survey. If you do not have this email, please click on the following link to complete the survey. Thank you in advance for your participation. https://www.leaderinme.com/s/cedar-grove-elementary-school/families
Mr. Jansson would like parents of students in grades 3, 4, and 5 to know that children will be able to roller skate during their scheduled PE time starting today and continuing through next week. Students must have a bike helmet to participate. If your child has skates, they can be brought to school on their PE day. If your child doesn't own skates, there will be extras available if they fit or an alternate activity will be provided.
Some parents may have questions about the use or need for Chromebooks over the summer for summer school or tutoring. If you child is registered for summer school at Wilson Wims Elementary School, students will be provided a Chromebook from Wims for their use during school time. These devices will stay at the school for the duration of summer school. If you child is enrolled in one of our tutoring programs, students will take their devices home from Cedar Grove but will need to return it with the charger on the first day of school.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Mr. Derby and Mrs. German
Parents of 4th and 5th Grade Students - Family Out-of-School Time Survey
Beginning June 9, 2022, parents of students in 4th and 5th grades are asked to participate in a short online survey designed by the Montgomery County Public Schools Office of Shared Accountability about Out-of-School Time (OST) activities and opportunities for students. OST is defined as structured activities that students engage in virtually and/or in person when school is not in session. The results of the survey will be used to design enhanced free programming, tailored to students' interests, while also addressing the district's key focus areas of mitigating learning disruption, digital learning, and student well-being. You will receive a link to the survey via your email or you may click on the link below. The survey opened yesterday and will close on Thursday, June 30, 2022. Thank you for taking a few moments to complete this survey.

Media Monthly Update
As we come to the end of our school year, please continue checking our June, July, August Media Monthly, as it will be updated every Friday and often during the summer! Should you have any tech questions, please take a look at the Tech Tips slide deck, which is always linked in the Media Monthly, as well.
Summer Reading
We are once again integrating the summer reading program from the Montgomery County Public Library with our summer reading for our students! Please check out the Summer Reading Slide Show which will give you all the information you need to register, the dates of our summer media mornings, and the new virtual Summer Read Aloud dates. The HUGE bonus is that the MCPL program will support the Chesapeake Bay Foundation's goals to increase animal habitats and plant trees with every book our students read. It's so very exciting for us, since we've worked so hard to not only be the best Green School but also ensure that all our students are environmental stewards! Please contact Karina Hirschhorn if you have any questions.
