What's New?
Here we are, halfway through the 3rd quarter of the school year. It is hard to believe that the year is this close to being over! Many of the students are experiencing a little dip in their grades due in part to lapsing effort. Fortunately, about the time that becomes concerning, we start talking about high school registration. For most of the students, that is very good motivation. Please remind your child that ability alone will not get them into the honors classes at the high school. Their work ethic is very important and will be considered when making recommendations for those classes.
Please remind your students to use the emails below when emailing their teachers. We do not use the Google email address. Thank you!
Please continue to email us with any concerns and feel free to contact the office if you would like to have a conference.
Please send in tissues.
We have a lot of runny noses!
We'd be happy to have Clorox/Lysol wipes
and paper towels as well. Thank you!

Here is what is happening in our classes!
Language Arts
Writing:
Students began working on their informational piece on prosthetic limbs. They will be working on this in class. This writing piece will be part of a Project Based Learning activity that they will also be working on in science class.
Reading:
Students will continue to read and annotate To Kill a Mockingbird. They will have to read and annotate chapters 23-26 this week. In class we will discuss the text and make foldables that will help further their discussion.
Grammar:
Students will be reviewing all of the grammar standards learned this school year. We will also be working on compound and complex sentences. Many students struggled on using a variety of sentences, or they had run-on sentences on the Assesslets. So, we are going to work on these skills.
Root words:
They were given a new list of root words today in class. The prefixes are ad, re, and se. They will have a quiz on these on Thursday, Feb. 23rd.
Math
Happy Friday parents! I hope you all are staying well with this crazy flu season. We will begin the week with an activity looking at qualitative graphs and interpreting them. We will then move into the statistics part of the 8th grade curriculum. We will be constructing scatter plots and 2-way tables from data. Students will also identify and interpret information from them. We will continue to graph and write linear functions. Students will also continue to write linear functions from real world situations. Students will have homework each night through Thursday. Some nights will be review material, and other nights will be current material. The website www.thatquiz.org is a good site students can look at to practice identifying slope and equations and also writing equations of graphs. Also, www.khanacademy.com, is another good site to see their content presented in another way. I've also suggested to students to use www.youTube.com as a resource to see content presented differently. Please feel free to email with any concerns or questions. Have a good weekend.
Georgia Studies
Physical Science
All science classes will continue their unit of study over motion and forces. They will relate the question of prosthetic devices to a study on simple and compound machines. They will have the opportunity to design their own "grabber" device which must be able to pick up a ball and a can. The next mastery assessment for the 8th grade classes is scheduled for March 2nd.
