St Cecilia's Catholic Primary School - September 2018

Fun Day Thank You

Thanks to our PTA for a lovely morning of fun on the inflatable last weekend, it was good to see so many of you there, the children certainly had fun bouncing around, we hope that we sufficiently tired them out for you!

We have a provisional date for our PTA Annual General Meeting - the evening of Wednesday 17th October. Once this is confirmed the PTA will come back to you with the verified date and time, but please pencil that date in for now. It would be good to see lots of parents there so that we can plan for another year.

Parent Teacher Meetings

We are currently working to change the way that we report information to parents. We aim to send home a termly data report which contains a summary of your child's attainment - progress and achievement. Once introduced in February 2019, this summary will come out just after the half term holidays.

As part of providing you with more progress information we are moving our Parent Teacher Meetings to later in the term, after the publication of the termly data report.

Our Parent Teacher meetings for this term are therefore scheduled for:

Tuesday 30 October

Thursday 1 November

Next week, we will be sending you a link to an online booking system. Parents will need to visit a dedicated webpage for each class in order to book an appointment with the class teacher. We hope that you like the new system - it should be a lot easier than lots of paper going back and forth between home and school.

Library Boost

Merton School Library Service is closing and they have enabled local schools to purchase books from them at reduced cost. Mrs Martin and I recently spent a morning there buying hundreds of books for our new library, it has been a wonderful opportunity to build up our book stock.

It does mean that many of our books that go home will have the Merton Library stamp within them, please make sure to return the book to us and not to a Merton library!

We hope that your child is reading regularly each night, we have lots of lovely books available in the library - see our stock grow through the school library link below. Please remember that good readers become good writers!

Big picture

MacMillan Coffee Morning

Thanks for all your support for MacMillan today, it was a lovely coffee morning and a good chance for lots of parents to get together and have a good chat. We should raise well in to the £700+ mark by the end of the day - a great success.

It's the time of year when Reception and Nursery 2019 applications need to be made. We are currently taking applications for guided tours of the school for parents of 2019 entrants. If this applies to you, please click on the links below for more guidance and to book a tour. Please make sure to apply before the deadline and to use a supplementary application form when possible.

Please remember that we do not celebrate Halloween in school, we recognise that it is becoming more popular here in the UK but as it is not part of the Catholic primary school tradition.

It has been a lovely return to the school year, September is always a very hard working month as all the children and staff settle in to new routines and a year filled with new expectation.

I hope that the new term has started well for your family,

With best wishes,

Vince Burke
