Sunrise Family Updates
11.17.23
Hi Sunrise Families!
Hi All - I hope this message finds you well! We have some exciting opportunities coming up for students to challenge themselves academically. Thank you for reading on and encouraging your child to take part:
Sunrise Spelling Bee - Today your child will come home with a grade level Spelling List to study. We will host classroom spelling bees in early January with 2-3 students moving on to the school-wide bee at the end of January. Have fun practicing as a family!
Battle of the Books - More to come on this, but for now, please click on the link to learn more. You could tackle the book list as a family or join with other families to do a book club. I have started chipping away at the list and have loved both books I have read thus far. The Battle will take place in January, with all students welcome to compete.
Finally, as you consider holiday gifts for your child, please read the short article about cell phones. There is a lot of research that suggests the longer we wait to introduce this to kids, the better. There are some great alternatives out there for you to stay connected with your child, that don't expose them to the apps on a Smartphone and access of the internet. Thank you for considering this!
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Katie Smullen
Sunrise Principal
The Sunrise Ambassador Trip to Cherryland Airport was amazing!
Help Support our High School Choir
The Sturgeon Bay High School choir students have been working hard to raise money for their trip to New York City over Spring Break this year! Please join us at one of these upcoming "Share Day" events at local restaurants to help support our choir students in their fundraising efforts. Students will be bussing tables/delivering food at both events to earn funds, and portions of all purchases go toward our choir students!
Sonny's Pizza Share Day - Saturday, November 18
Culver's Share Night - Tuesday, November 21
**Sonny's Pizza Pick Up - Tuesday, Nov. 28, 4-8pm
**If you already supported our students and ordered some frozen Sonny's pizza from a choir student in October, please pick up your order on Tuesday, November 28 between 4pm and 8pm in the Sonny's lower level back room (enter through Bridge Up Brewing).
We love our Sunrise Reading Buddies (these are just a few)!
Hearing and Vision Screenings at Sunrise
Public Health, along with many Lions Club volunteers, completed vision and hearing
screenings for all Sunrise students on Monday, November 13. Teri VanLieshout, Public
Health Hearing and Vision Coordinator will contact parents of students who exhibited
concerns with either screening. We are so thankful for this service they provide!
Sunrise 3rd Grade Basketball Team Scrimmage versus Southern Door! Nice job!
Would you like to help out the district and earn some money?
If you have your associate's degree or higher, our district reimburses fees for earning your Three-year Short-term Substitute Teacher License. Substitute teachers earn $125 a day. After completing 10 days of subbing in the school year that you applied to be a sub-teacher, the district will reimburse your Three-year Short-term Substitute Teacher License fee. Here is the DPI link that provides information on how to obtain a Three-year Short-term Substitute Teacher License. Call Ann DeMeuse at 920-746-2807 if you would like additional information. Thank you for considering!
