Room 309

It's been a busy week in room 309! We've been busy learning and revisiting expectations in different areas of the building. Please help remind your student the restroom is to help meet our needs and not for playing. There's been a lot of horseplay and talking in the restrooms. We're working hard on being responsible and respectful in these areas.

A school fund-raiser was sent home on Wednesday of this week. We appreciate your help in this effort. Please encourage students to use safe practices when selling items. Sell to people you know and not strangers.

What did we learn this week?

This week we've completed Module 1 in math. We've worked diligently on multi-digit addition and subtraction, with numbers up to the one millions place. Students have compared and ordered numbers as well. We've practiced rounding numbers to given places and have tackled multi-step story problems. On Thursday, we reviewed the unit and the module assessment was taken today. Any students needing extra review afterwards will continue to work on these standards during our RTI (Response to Intervention) time in the mornings.

We've continued to explore narrative writing and have read good examples of it with published pieces. We've examined narrowing down ideas to more specific ones. This week we've continued to read about Earth's Place in the Universe, mainly focusing on rocks.

Our class has revisited our multi-syllable words for Aug./Sept. by answering riddles about them. We've looked at word structure in content area words and thought of other words we know that look or sound like them, and talked about their meanings.

We took our STAR 360 reading and math tests this week for the beginning of the school year data. Students will analyze their progress next week and set goals for themselves. Be looking for your student to bring home a parent information letter (one for math and one for reading) early next week. This information is for you to keep. There is no need to sign the signature portion at the bottom of the page.

On Friday, we learned about the history of the U.S. Constitution and its preamble.

Fall Festival Basket

The theme for our class's fall festival basket is BELTON PIRATES! These baskets will be auctioned off at the KT Fall Festival, Thursday October 20th. I will provide the basket. I am asking for donations of anything that would be suitable for the "Belton Pirates" theme. Students may begin bringing in donations at any time. I will also be sending home a flyer addressing the fall basket, with this same information on it, next week.
