In the Middle
Solebury Middle School -October Edition 2016
Farming Project
Please check in with your student about their Farming Project. They need to have made an appointment with their farmer to visit this week and have a draft of their narrative for class on Monday October 31st. A contract will be coming home this week if they would like to check out an ipad to complete the project using Imovie. They will take responsibility for the ipad and case while they are completing the project. If they have access to a personal ipad- they will need to bring it to school the week of October 31st to work on their movie in class. All movies will need to be submitted by November 7th. This includes pictures they have taken during their visit along with a voice over of their content.
Field Trip October 28th
They will be headed to Howell Living Farm on Friday morning to learn about farming in the 1800's. We will be back for lunch. They should dress for the weather- we will be outside rain or shine!
Haunted Woods October 28th
Haunted Woods is a tradition on campus. The seniors transform the woods into a scary trail. All proceeds help the senior class funds. Middle schoolers are welcome to attend the event.
Gamelon Performance
November 10th at 9:55am the middle schoolers will be performing their Gamelon work to the student body. Parents are invited to come. It will be a 15 minutes assembly that day in the PAC.
Farm to Table Dinner Volunteers
Many hands make for light work- if you are interested in helping to set up for the farm to table dinner- please let Jessica in Advancement know. We will be setting up on Monday November 14th from 12:30- 2:30 in the John Brown Gym.
Farm to Table Dinner
We will be ending the trimester with a farm to table dinner and then watching the student's presentation on the farm that they visited. You will be getting a digital invitation this week- remember to sign up for a pot luck item. Siblings and family members are welcome to attend- just RSVP by November 1st.
Final Exams and End of the Trimester Projects
We are winding down the trimester! They have projects due, papers due and some final exams. Take a look at the due dates for the projects and papers (it is all posted on Moodle) and look up any final exams on the school website (History, Language and Math). Make a plan to finish out the trimester by putting all of the due dates posted in their planner. The end of the trimester is hectic especially for 7th graders experiencing it for the first time. If they need some extra help- let the advisor know!
During final exams (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday) they only need to be on campus if they have a final exam. Otherwise, it is best to stay home due to the limited supervision on campus during this time. School bus service remains the same during our final exam schedule.
