First Grade at O.C.T.

February 8-12

Highlight of the Week

Students loved making their Timelines digitally and on paper for all to see! The kids loved sharing their photos, videos, and memories of their own personal lives with their friends. What a great way to learn about the past?!?! We can not wait for you to see them at our Open House in March.

App of the Week

VocabularySpellingCity is a fun way to learn spelling and sight words by playing engaging games using word lists. The most popular activities are Spelling TestMe and HangMouse. Students can log onto their teacher's site to practice the words on their individualized spelling Words Their Way concepts, as well as, First Grade Sight Words.

Pops for Pals

TTT will be selling Blow Pops with valentine cards in the foyer after

school from 2:45-3:00 on Monday-Thursday this week. They are 3 pops for $1.00. Save a trip to the store and buy your valentines at school!

Valentine’s Day Parties

Please join us on Friday, February 12th for our class Valentine’s Day party. Remember no younger siblings at the party, please! The party will start at 12:45 and end promptly at 1:45. We hope to see you there!

Calling All Chaperones

We will be visiting The Perot Museum of Nature and Science on Wednesday, March 2. We will leave OCT at 9:00am and return around 1:30pm. We will be at the museum from 9:45-1:00pm. Any and all parents, grandparents or other relatives are more than welcome to attend. Since you will be directly involved with OCT children, we ask that all chaperones complete the GCISD Background Check. It takes a couple of weeks to process so if you are chaperoning and have not complete one yet do so asap.

You can complete it at

Admission is $5 and will be purchased it at the museum the day of the field trip. Due to limited bus space all chaperones will need to meet us at the museum. Feel free to carpool to save on parking cost:) We will draw three names to be official chaperones from each class since only 3 chaperones will be allowed into our Simple Machines class. If you plan on attending the field trip, please let me know by Friday, February 12th so that I can arrange small groups. Hope you can join us!

Six Flags Read to Succeed

Don't forget that the Six Flags Read to Succeed Reading Log is due by February 19. You can send it in anytime before then. Your child will need to have read a total of at least 6 hours in order to qualify for the free ticket to Six Flags.
