What is the Mentor Program?
How Many Mentors Do We Have?
Fall Semester
Fall semester brings the holidays which are always a fun time for mentors and their mentees. Many mentors got to attend holiday lunches and class parties and the majority of them chose to put together Christmas stockings or other gifts for their students. The stockings and gifts are always a big hit, but the best gift is the time that the mentors spend with their kids!
What's Happening on the Campuses?
Many of the mentors get to take their students to the library or cafeteria and play board games or card games. Sometimes several mentors and their mentees will join up and play games together. At both the elementary and middle school campuses mentees love going outside and playing football, basketball or other games with their mentors.
Mentors have also gotten to participate in some special activities with their mentees. Career day was fun and both mentors and mentees were inspired during the Veteran's Day program. Several mentors were able to attend FHS's production of Beauty and the Beast with their students. No matter what activity the mentors and mentees are participating in though, the most important thing seems to be the conversations that take place and the connections that are made.
What Do the Mentors Say?
"I LOVE CHANGING LIVES!"
"I enjoy when my kid's face lights up with joy when I visit!"
"I love being a mentor because it allows me to make a difference in our district and our community."
"My mentee has had just as much of an impact on me as I have had on him because he's taught me so much about making a connection and what it means to have fun."
"My mentees have really helped me grow as a person and learn how to be compassionate."
"My mentees have taught me that everyone needs a friend so be friends with everyone!"
"I have enjoyed getting to know how unique my kids are!"
For Students- How Do I Get Involved?
The goal of the Mentor Program is to make a difference in the lives of others. If you are a caring, responsible, student who enjoys working with children and who can be a positive role-model for younger students, this may be the class for you!
