Terra Linda Tiger Tale
July 9, 2020
Principal's Message
Dear Terra Linda Families,
I hope you had an enjoyable 4th of July weekend! Ours was spent welcoming a new puppy to our family. You can see her pictured in this message. This is a new adventure for our family as we haven't ever had a permanent pet (other than ladybugs and other critters that my daughter put in a jar for a few days)!
It was fun to see several students on our Summer Reading Challenge on Monday this week. Below you will find a link to the video of our 3:30 session and additional resources. I hope you check out https://wonderopolis.org/!
On Monday, July 16, we will continue our Summer Reading Challenge via Zoom and explore ways to apply reading strategies to a digital text. Zoom info is below. I hope your children join! I also hope that you're finding fun books to read this summer, continuing with lessons on Dreambox or other math activities, and engaging in creative writing like journals or letters to friends or new stories.
Next week, our District is offering several opportunities to learn more about the Return-to-School Plan and the FLEX Online School option. See dates, times, and online info below. You might consider watching the English or Spanish video for a brief overview of both options.
Please take a look at the community resources information, including updated local food resources.
Please know that I am checking our school's phone messages throughout the summer. If you have any questions, please leave a message and I will call you back. 503-356-2490. You can also reach me at christina_batsell@beaverton.k12.or.us
Thank you for continuing to encourage any families who move in nearby to enroll their children in school. You can tell them to go to the Beaverton School District website and click on "Enroll your Child" on the main page.
With appreciation,
Christy Batsell
Principal

Summer Reading Challenge
Each week through the week of August 3, students are invited to engage in a different Summer Reading Challenge. We kick off each week's challenge with a Zoom session on Monday at 3:30. Mrs. Batsell and Mrs. Chamberlain, principals at Terra Linda and Cedar Mill, are hosting each session. Students from both schools are participating.
Here is a link to the video of our first session on Monday this week: https://youtu.be/6BFU94jqgfQ
Students were invited to read (or listen to) an article about something they wonder about. We offered this website as a resource: https://wonderopolis.org/ As they read the article, we encouraged them to sketchnote about what they were learning and post their sketchnote to this padlet: https://padlet.com/christina_batsell/xg7hhl71sm6bfj17 We also hope students share their own wonderings on the padlet too!
We hope students can join us next Monday at 3:30 pm as we explore ways to apply reading strategies to a digital text. We will be watching a movie short and using some reading strategies as we watch!
Click the images or the button below to view an overview of sessions. Each session will be recorded and later posted to SeeSaw for those who are unable to join. If you do not want your child's image recorded and posted, feel free to sign in without your camera turned on.
Hope your children can join and keep up your summer reading!
