Mrs. Libby's 1st Grade Class
Back to School
Our little ones are 1st graders! What a great first week of school. And I'm sure you are as happy as we are to be in Mrs. Libby's class. Lucky us!
My name is Malia. I am Ava Herlinger's Mom, and I am one of your room parents. I will be emailing you from time to time in order to give you information from the school and from the classroom. Should you need help or have questions, I would be happy to find answers for you.
So here we go...
Class Roster - Please REVIEW
I have attached the class roster! Please review your information and update on Google Docs. If it is easier for you to email me the info, I need both parents full names, email addresses and phone numbers. I will need to forward this roster to Mrs. Libby and the office as soon as possible. My email is firstname.lastname@example.org.
Mrs. Libby's class website
I'm sure you have already been checking the website: http://mrslibbysfireworks.weebly.com
Please take a look at Mrs. Libby's WISH LIST! It would be great to start the year off by getting her everything she needs for our kids. If you would like to get items as a group, please email me and I can get it started.
Stop & Drop started this Thursday and they NEED volunteers
On Thursday, our valet line started to roll again. They need four or five parents EACH morning to help open doors and get kids out of cars safely. Volunteering just requires 30 minutes before school from 7:45-8:15; they ask all families to take 10 shifts per year even if you don't use the service. This is one the best volunteering opportunities because you get to be a morning greeter for the kids.
They've organized volunteers by grade so you can work with other parents you know, but feel free to sign up whenever is convenient. They especially need volunteers throughout August. (For their own safety, your children can't be with you while you volunteer. Please drop them off at the play yard first).
If you didn't return the school forms that were mailed to you over the summer, you can download those and bring them to Mrs. Libby:
Thank you to all parents who have completed and returned forms already.
Wizard Wire Newsletter
If you haven't received the "Wizard Wire" school newsletter yet this school year, you can sign up here:
The Wizard Wire contains the most important school information that parents need and helps us go paperless.
We've had some reports of lice around school and so the school arranged to have a professional lice removal company come and inspect every student. They were in all of the classrooms this past Thursday and Friday.
Please check your child's backpack for a letter from the school telling you if they found lice or lice eggs. There will also be a coupon for Lousey Nitpickers, the company that did the lice check at school. Their contact information is 1.877.4-LOUSEY (456.8739), E-Mail: email@example.com and they can do lice removal in your own home. There are several other lice treatment companies like Hair Fairies that you can use.
Please be sure to have the lice treated by the end of this weekend. The school will be following up with a phone call if your child was found with lice this week.
We really all need to work together to keep our kids lice free. You should be combing for lice at home (this is a great comb: http://amzn.to/1cMewEg) and you can send your student to school with hair tied back and with lice-repelling creams (like tea tree oil or products available from lice removal companies) in the hair.
Also, please be mindful of the children's feelings if they were found with lice. It can happen to anybody. Preparing your child and combing at home is really the best strategy for keeping lice away.
Thanks for your help with this. The school office can answer questions as well at 310-274-5313.
Have a nice weekend and see you next week!
