Middle College Updates
The End is Near...
Goodbye :(
Your new counselor will be assigned to you as soon as the rosters are complete. Sniff.
Finals
We are in the home stretch! Next week is the last week of instruction and the following week is finals. Students at this point should be spending the time they need on studying for their finals and finishing up last projects, assignments and presentations.
Middle College finals will be on Tuesday and Wednesday of finals week.
All English finals (for both juniors and seniors) will be on Tuesday and all Social Studies finals will be on Wednesday. Thursday at 3 pm is our end-of-year celebration to recognize our graduating seniors. All students are expected to attend, including juniors!
Chris should be emailing all families with instructions on returning college textbooks--but keep in mind all texts need to be returned by the end of finals week or the cost of the book may be charged to the credit card on record in the bookstore.
Scheduling, Transferring, and Final Transcripts
Juniors continuing here
Juniors have been scheduled for summer 2016 and fall 2016. Check your WebSmart account for your course schedule and let me know as soon as you can if you need to make any changes.
Seniors staying here and transferring
Seniors who will continue here need to complete the college application as if they are a first time student and indicate that they are graduating from high school in June. They should also make an appointment to meet with a college counselor to update their SEP. The college is holding registration help sessions in the Learning Center today, 5/13, as well as 5/16, 5/17, 5/18 from 8am-3pm and 5pm-8pm.
Seniors going on to a 4 year
This is a reminder for seniors moving on to request final transcripts from your home high school after June 10. This transcript must be received by colleges by July 1. Additionally, you must also have your Canada college transcript sent via your WebSmart account.
Summer and Fall Info
The summer session is from June 13- July 23. Students need to keep in mind that in the summer the drop date comes very quickly--in some cases, the drop date is the second or third day of class. Make sure you notify me immediately if your plans change.
Students enrolling in online classes should check their my.smccd email accounts andWebAccess (log in with G# and birthdate -- MMDDYY) for the syllabus, course information, and materials.
A reminder for those taking summer classes: during summer tuition is waived, but families are responsible for the cost of the college textbooks. Let me know if the cost of books is an obstacle and we'll figure something out.
Fall semester begins on Aug. 8. College classes begin the following week, on Aug 17, so those first few days we will have orientation, get books, and discuss the summer reading, I am Malala.
