Comet Connection
Keeping you connected with Silver City ES!
ADMIN UNIVERSE
Comet Families,
I want to take this opportunity to thank you for an incredible 2020-2021 school year. When we began last August, there was so much uncertainty in what this school year would look like and how long we would stay open for face-to-face instruction. Well, here we are 10 months later and we completed the entire school year offering face-to-face and virtual instruction. I would call this a HUGE success!
Of course, our success comes from our partnership with you! We worked together to follow the established protocols, we "pivoted" to try to provide as much "normalcy" as possible for our students, and we "buckled down" to work through every challenge that arose (flipping between in-person and virtual instruction, surviving mandatory quarantines, and understanding the limitations to hosting our normal SCES events, etc.).
Through it all, we thank you for your support. Even when we did things that were frustrating, you took a breath, listened, and understood. You shared your input respectfully and listened to our reasoning. Thank you for that. Our staff appreciates the way you understand that we truly are trying to make the best possible decisions for our students, families, and staff.
Now that we have closed the 2020-21 school year and look forward to the 2021-22 school year, we wanted to thank you for taking the time to complete our two end-of-year surveys. We will use your feedback to continue to improve our school, our instruction, our communication and how we support our students. We value your feedback!
We do want to share with you that, currently, our plan is to begin the 2021-22 school year as a "normal" school year. Please note that we may adjust some things because we liked how we did them this year and we felt they worked logistically better for our school. For example, we are considering having our Open House as more of a meet-and-greet opportunity in the front lawn areas of the school, like we did this past year, since it was less crowded and families got a chance for a more individualized introduction to the teacher.
We hope you enjoy this edition of the Comet Connection as we share the following information with you:

Summer Reading Challenge (Optional)
This summer your child will be able to take part in our Summer Reading Challenge, if you so choose. You may use the June Reading Bingo Card and the July Bingo Card to document your reading this summer!
Your child can turn in his/her completed bingo card the first week of school, with an adult's initials in the boxes, to get credit for completing the Summer Reading Challenge, an optional activity.
Books from your personal library or the local public library (i.e., Hampton Park) can be used to complete these reading steps, as well as online resources like MyOn and ARC Bookshelf.
Thank you so much for your continued support and partnership
in instilling a love of reading in our students!
Reminders from the Front Office
Our office hours this summer are 8:00am-12:00noon, Monday - Thursday.
There are still a number of items at the front desk that have been left for parents to pick-up for their children.
Feel free to reach out to Ms. Meredith Warren at 678-965-5020 (press "0" to reach her) and she can let you know if there are any items for your child(ren) here to pick-up.
The front office will be closed June 21-July 5 for vacation, so please plan to come before or after that to pick-up items.
We hope every Comet family has a safe and relaxing summer break!
