Mrs. Miller's Weekly Update

Responding to Challenges
How we choose to respond to these situations is so important. It is critical to acknowledge the feelings as they come - disappointment, fear, sadness, anger. However, it is also important to have the mindset to face the situation, brainstorm solutions, and realize that how we respond is incredibly powerful!
Throughout life, we will be faced with disappointing situations. Losing a wrestling match, having a bad performance during a game, not doing well on a test you prepared for, or having a relationship end unexpectedly can all be very stressful situations. There are endless scenarios that cause us stress. It's good to acknowledge what we are feeling in that moment, but it is also important to keep things in perspective. We need to learn to process those feelings, learn from the experience, and hope for better days ahead.
When days get tough for me, I remind myself how much we have to be grateful for as parents/guardians, educators, and students. We can choose to see the challenging scenario for what it is - a temporary setback. Enjoy the small miracles that happen every day, and have faith that better days are coming!

As you probably know, Hamlin was promoting a charity that was created to support a toy drive for Damar's community, sponsored by The Chasing M's Foundation. It had a $2,500 goal but raised over $8.4 million as of today.
This whole scenario has been a great reminder that it is important to rally together, keep the faith, and appreciate all we have!
We have the power to take where we are at in life and make it amazing!
Have a great start to the second semester! Remember, this is like a fresh start, and it is important to start strong! That means paying attention and being actively engaged in class. Please make sure you are keeping up with your work and asking teachers for help if you need it.
Have a GREAT second semester!
From time to time, situations come up that keep us from attending school. That is understandable. However, when chronic attendance issues arise, it can have a detrimental impact on student learning.
So much of the learning process takes place in the classroom with teacher led instruction and student learning conversations. This type of learning cannot be duplicated outside the classroom. Therefore, when students miss numerous days of school, it can be difficult for those students to learn at high levels. In fact, often students who struggle academically have repetitive attendance issues throughout the year. It's not as simple as "catching up" at the end of the semester. Learning is cumulative and begins the very first day of the semester.
With that said, we are embarking on our first day of Semester #2 Monday! As seen in the table below, consistently missing a day of school here and there can really add up!
Let's start off on a positive note and commit to being in school every day possible!
