Salmon's Week 5 Update

September 28th - October 3rd

Great time was had by many at the the Buns and Run Event. Thank you to the PTC for providing a great time for the families and children. Dahlicious Day was great! Many kids dressed in little ways, but check out our Twits! Oh and a few adorable Sophie characters too!

Reading: Our focus was on Text Features for the students. Please continue to reinforce the purpose of timeline, images, and captions at home. Here a few simple and fun ideas:

Make a timeline of your family's life

Have your child add/subtract to determine their age at a certain event.

What decade an event occurred during.

You can add pictures or silly things about your own childhood. Just make it fun!

Science: We are staring the Skeletal System next week. The kids will be making "life size" models of the human body.

Social Studies: We will continue with the Southwest Culture and its history.

Peek at the Week

Reading: Navajo Code Talkers is our story this week. A few students have already read a short passage about the fascinating group of men. If your child has a grandparent or great-grandparent that was alive during WWII please have them share with your child. There is no better way to hear about our history then through the eyes of someone that was part of it.

Science: We will continue to learn about the human body. Specifically the skeletal system in our body.

Digestive Systems: to provide nutrients to our body

Muscular System: to move our body

Circulatory System: moves oxygen filled blood to our body

Skeletal System: helps move, provides support and protection to our body.

Writing: We are working on vivid adjectives in our writing. Here are a few sentences:

basic - The sky is blue today.

vivid - The sky is a pool of cool spring water in an alpine lake.

Thank you for signing those agendas! Progress reports went home on Thursday of this week, if you did not see it please ask your child. Please sign and return those by Monday. Students will be watching Because of Winn Dixie for our DOJO Reward on Wednesday. We will be eating lunch in the room and enjoying our hard work. Students are welcome to bring in a snack for themselves to eat while we watch the movie.

Please remember to send a note to me via email or call the office if you child is out. I know it is hard to remember, but then we don't have to call. Thank you for the help with this matter.

Wednesday, September 30th: Early Release

Thursday-Friday, October 15th-16th: PIR Days (no school for students)
