Mrs. Davis' Class
Reading Wrap Up
Last week, we finished our first reading unit! While exploring realistic fiction, students had a chance to share mentor texts through whole class reading and to participate in two Book Groups. Student-selected projects were completed for the second text. Character maps, diary entries, setting maps, and summaries were the most popular choices. All projects showed that students were able to summarize and determine theme; the main concepts of the unit!
Math Matters
Problem solving with addition and subtraction will be the focus for the next few weeks! All students should be practicing their fact fluency at home. In order to demonstrate fluency, students should need only 3 seconds to recall an addition or subtraction fact. Remember, you can practice in a car, on a bus, or even during the commercials of your favorite tv show. If you need suggestions on FUN ways to practice facts, just send an email to me at ldavis@ledyard.net
It WAS explosive!
Last Friday also brought an end to our Science unit on MATTER. I hope each of you heard all about our INNOVATION DAY which focused on chemical changes in matter. If you didn't hear, please ask your child exactly HOW we were able to blow up a balloon with a liquid and a solid AND what "elephant tooth paste" really is.
Field Trip Alert
Our first field trip will be on Wednesday, October 28th. The destination will be the Mashantucket Pequot Museum where students will get a chance to do some hands on learning as part of our Social Studies unit on Native Peoples of North America. Be on the look out for more information coming home in backpacks next week!
