Have a wonderful Winter break!!
Winter Break~ 12/21-1/3*School Resumes Thursday, 1/4
Leverty Letter
Each year, as we head into winter break, we embark on a host of traditions to celebrate, recognize, and mark the passing of time. It is a special time of the year to spend with family and treasured friends, and often we break from our normal routine. The most memorable time of winter break for me, was playing with my siblings while building large snow forts. Wisconsin had an abundance of the white fluffy stuff, which Portland lacks, but reflecting back I realize this play provided ample time to build skills, such as creativity, teamwork, problem solving and social emotional development. The human mind is programmed to learn in all areas of life. As we head towards winter break, the Montclair staff would like to remind families to continue to remain focused on learning over the break. Traditions are a wonderful way to teach history, geography and cultural perspective. Exploring the outdoors and infusing evidence of seasonal changes is a visible way to delve into the elements of Earth science. Our digital world makes learning accessible even when school is out, such as practicing math concepts on Dreambox (see directions below), and there is always time to cozy up with a favored author. Whatever traditions and exciting activities you have in store this winter break, know that everyone at Montclair Elementary wishes each and every family an enjoyable break.
Happy New Year!
