Dear RMS Families-
Happy March!
We ended February with our Staff vs. Student Basketball game, and the staff repeated as winners this year! It was a great event that showcased basketball, Band, Chorus, the Cheer Squad, and Mr. Maserati's amazing dunking skills. Mr. Fortier did a fantastic job reffing the event, and our MC Mr. Fortier kept the crowd entertained the whole game. The Student Council sold some cool spirit gear prior to the game, and students were able to showcase their support for each team.
The P.A.C.K (formerly The Merit Club) is taking off with Mr. Sampson acting as the advisor. These are students in good standing academically and behaviorally. They must apply to get into The P.A.C.K., and then they have opportunities to use our cool P.A.C.K. facilities with ping pong, foosball, and basketball. The P.A.C.K students are also working on ways to improve experiences at RMS. There is a photo of the P.A.C.K. members in this newsletter. Great job!
As the winter sports season winds down, the play season is picking up. Mrs. Isaak and Mrs. St. Pierre are diligently preparing students for the RMS Drama Production: Disney's Beauty and the Beast Jr. Last year's Shrek performance was a great experience, and I know they will follow it up with success during this year's performance. The performances will be the weekend of April 5th-7th.
This month (March 6-8) we begin the writing portion of the NH SAS. In April students will complete NH SAS in literacy, math, and science (only 8th grade for science). This is a great assessment to showcase how our students are doing academically. It's important that students are focused on these testing days, and they should get a good rest the night before and a good breakfast the morning of the assessment.
I hope you all had a wonderful February break, and I look forward to seeing you all around campus during the month of March.
Respectfully,
Ryan Gilaptrick
Nursing News
Happy March! Spring is just around the corner and a perfect time to talk about physical activity. Some kids remain active throughout the winter with snowboarding, skating, skiing, basketball or hockey. Others may decide that the colder months are a chance to stay warm at home watching tv or playing video games. No matter how you have chosen to spend your winter, Spring is a time for new beginnings.
Did you know that only 24% of children ages 6-17 get the recommended amount of physical activity daily? According to the guidelines published by the U.S. Health and Human Services, adolescents should be getting 60 minutes or more of moderate to vigorous aerobic activity daily. As part of the 60 minutes or more a day of physical activity, adolescents should also include muscle strengthening activities and bone strengthening activities at least 3 days a week.
Here are some examples of the different types of physical activity.
Moderate aerobic: Vigorous aerobic:
Brisk Walking Running
Bike Riding Competitive Sports
Dancing Karate/Judo/Taekwondo
Muscle Strengthening: Bone Strengthening Exercises:
Lifting Weights Racket Sports
Resistance Bands Ski/Snowboard
Push Ups, Sit Ups, Squats Basketball,Volleyball
If you are someone that really does not enjoy exercise or you find it too hard then start off small. 10 minutes a day can eventually lead to 60 minutes a day. The worst that can happen is you get to experience the amazing benefits of exercise. What are some of the benefits of physical activity?
Help Manage Weight Loss
Improves mood
Relieves Depression
Reduces risk of disease
Strengthens Bones and Muscles

Spring Book Fair
The RMS spring book fair will be in the library March 18th to March 22nd. We'll have lots of newly published books, old favorites and some great bargain books. More information will be coming in March so be on the lookout for it! All proceeds benefit our RMS library. Thank you so much for your support!
The RMS Book Club presents Mysterious March
The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin
The Naturals by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Turtle Wexler moved into a building with a murder, a thief, a bookie, and a bomber. Can she use the clues to figure out who’s who and become a millionaire in The Westing Game? Cassie Hobbs is a teenager with an uncanny ability to read people and tell you who they are and what they want. She never took her gift seriously until she was recruited by the FBI to solve cold cases. At least that is what she is told she is doing in The Naturals. Read either of these suspenseful novels for our March meeting.
Our next meeting is Tuesday, March 5th. We will meet in the library from 2:30-3:15. Refreshments will be served. Email marshall.l@sau54.org for more details.
