Newsela provides relevant news articles for students to read for comprehension. Articles can be read at different Lexile levels. Students are given a quiz after reading the article to test comprehension and vocabulary. Teachers can set up a Newsela account and assign articles for students to read. Students are given a class code to access the articles. Newsela is availabe as a Google App allowing teachers and students to sign up with their Google Apps for Education account.

Newsela Available as a Google App
Newsela is available as a Google App for Teachers and Students. Add Newsela by going to the Chrome Store and selecting Newsela to add. Students should also add Newsela to their apps. Students can log in using their Google Apps for Education account and enter the teacher class code and get started using Newsela.
How to Use Newsela
Newsela is being used at Hernandez Middle School to help students improve reading and vocabulary. Students find the articles interesting and often select their own articles to read.
