Principal's Message
Hello Eagle Crest Families!
This week we had a lovely “Coffee with the Principal” hosted by our fabulous PTO. I shared a lot of information about our new Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) program here at Eagle Crest and we talked through all of the parts of RISE (responsible, inclusive, safe, and empathetic) that we are teaching our students throughout the building. We had time for a lot of questions and discussions around reintroducing family volunteers into the building, and our staff are working to address this as the year continues to unfold.
This week we do have an opportunity for you to connect with your child’s teachers. Family Teacher Conferences are such a joyful time of year because we get to share about the learning and growing your children are doing with us here at school. We are so excited to share their progress and to connect and celebrate their achievements with you!
I hope you have a wonderful weekend and I look forward to seeing you at conferences!
Warmly,
Amanda

Dean of Students' Message
Hello Eagle Crest Families!
Next week, Wednesday, October 12th, is our annual Vision and Hearing screenings. We screen all students in Preschool, Kindergarten, 1st Grade, 2nd Grade, 3rd Grade, and 5th Grade (and some 4th Graders). This screening can help catch any changes in your child's vision or hearing and help refer you to seek additional testing. If your child has glasses, please ensure they wear them on Wednesday. You will be notified if your child needs additional testing. Please reach out to our Health Clerk, Ruth Zacarias at zacarias_ruth@svvsd.org with any questions.
All the best,
Lindsey Cheney

If this sounds like you, please reach out and check out the job posting on the SVVSD website!
PTO Update
Dear Eagle Crest Families,
Help us fill those Conference meal sign-up slots! Purchase a meal for a staff member on Monday, October 10 (Qdoba) and Wednesday, October 12 (Jersey Mike's). Short on time? You can purchase meals online and PTO will coordinate a restaurant pick-up & school delivery. Email ECPTOVolCoor@gmail.com or make a note in the Sign-Up Genius so we know!
Volunteers needed: We still have a few Book Fair volunteer slots open through October 12th. Our art teacher needs 1-2 parent volunteers to hang artwork during school next week. We are also looking for one parent to plan to volunteer in the main office for 1 hour per week to help sort and deliver RISE tickets. Email ECPTOVolCoor@gmail.com if you are interested.
Funding Vote: PTO sends funding requests exceeding $200 for a vote, so that our entire school community has a say in how funds are used. The school is requesting funds for the 3rd-5th grade Shakespeare performance and workshops. Click here to vote by 5 PM on Sunday, October 9.
The Modern Market restaurant fundraiser is Thursday, October 20th all day.
Thanks,
Jenn Pensy, PTO president

BOOK-TOBER Reading Challenge
Boooooooktober and the School Wide Reading Challenge Has Begun!
Keep your child reading at home with our school wide Reading Challenge. Our goal is to read 250,000 minutes as a school before Winter Break. The challenge started Saturday, October 1st. 20-30 minutes a day, five days a week is all it takes.
Help your child get into a routine of keeping track of how many minutes they read each week. Starting Monday, October 10th, have your student log their reading minutes every Monday morning through the Weekly Reading Log. Winners will be selected from readers who have logged their minutes. Some classes may be doing this during class time, so check with your student to see how you can help them with tracking and logging their reading minutes.
There will be one winner in every classroom each week. THAT’S 17 WINNERS EACH WEEK!!!
And to jump start the Reading Challenge, our first group of winners will be selected on Monday, October 10th and TWO READERS FROM EACH CLASS will win a FREE BOOK! Winners will be announced on Thursday, October 13 during the morning announcements. So help your child find a comfy place to read and fall into a good book.
Click Here for more information about the Reading Challenge
If you have any questions or need help with the reading log, please contact Mrs. Beckett at beckett_joan@svvsd. org.
Meet our Eagle Crest Staff
Mwebaza Update
Meet Ali!
He is a permaculture gardening expert in Uganda. Ali is working with all of our partner schools to teach and establish sustainable gardening practices. These gardens are part of a plan to have healthy lunches for all students and to teach about indigenous farming.
Students in Colorado and Uganda have been studying the effects of climate change in both places. The students at Mwebaza Annex have planted a vegetable garden using drought resistant plants and have been learning ways to conserve water by mulching, using trenches and by companion planting. Planting the “Three Sisters'', squash, corn and beans together, is a Naitve American practice that is also used in Uganda. It not only conserves water, it keeps soil fertilized, and provides stalks for growing and shade from the sun.
Through video calls, discussions, and local gardening projects Colorado and Uganda students will be able to gain a broader global understanding of the climate crisis and ways to make a difference.
Silver Creek Kids Night Out
Lunch Menu & Color Day Schedule
The October Schedule is below!
Add Money to your Child’s School Breakfast & Lunch Account
MySchoolBucks is the website you want to access in order to add funds to your child’s account for purchasing breakfast, lunch, or milk at school. This system will send you reminders and can manage the account of multiple students. Money can also be sent to school by check or cash. Please label any checks or cash with the students first name, last name, and teacher.
If you haven’t yet, you can apply for Free & Reduced meals to see if your family qualifies for free meals. Applying for Free & Reduced lunch will help manage fees (like iPad Insurance or sports) and also helps our school receive additional funds and services. We encourage all families to complete the application.
