Silence is Golden: Summarizing Strategy
This strategy focuses our attention on imagery. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then just imagine how much a video is worth. By redirecting students’ attention from the audio to the imagery and having them discuss aloud what they are seeing, educators will gain an idea of what they understand, need to master, and want to know more about.
Materials: video segment from Discovery Ed with great imagery, paper, and writing utensil
1. Choose a video segment from your current unit of study and play it without the audio. The segment should contain great imagery and convey important components of your unit.
2. Introduce the strategy by explaining to your students that they will be watching a video segment without the audio.
3. As students watch the segment, have them describe what they are seeing.
4. Consider pausing the video frequently to ask guiding questions or have students make predictions of what they believe will occur next. Students can record responses on paper.
5. When the segment has ended, have students explain to a partner what the video demonstrated.
This strategy is a great way to focus your students’ attention on imagery, make inferences, and predict future content.
More Ideas...
• Play the same segment three times during the unit of study.
• First time: ask students to think about what they see, know, and want to know more about. • Second time: narrate the video for the students, focusing on important academic vocabulary.
• Third time: ask students to talk through the video and explain to a partner what the video is demonstrating using the vocabulary learned

Q3 Grading Window
This is just a friendly reminder that grades are due in IC on March 15th @ 12:00 pm. Once you have finished entering grades in IC, please double check that you have them all entered. It is really easy to overlook conduct grades or health grades so double checking is very helpful. Sometimes when you get in a groove, you might just forget to click "save" --which has happened to all of us at some point! Thank you for double checking this! Please let Carol Ann know if you need any help with this!
Forget how to check grades in IC? See video below:

Readers Needed in Kindergarten
Have 10 minutes? Need a break from a stressful day?
Readers are needed in Kindergarten 😊
We are calling on you all to help our Kindergarten readers make-up their Reading Steps. Have 10 minutes? Need a break from a stressful day? Come on down to the kindergarten hallway! Each teacher has Catch-up bottles on their doors. Simply pull one or two names, ask for the students and read them a book. There is a book basket with books to read, or you can bring your own. Once you finish, place a check or a smiley face on a space on the student’s card, and send them back to class.
