Remote Learning Update
Friday, November 13, 2020
I hope that this message finds you and your family well. While it has only been two weeks since I stepped into the role of administrator of the Virtual School, I am really pleased to have joined such a team. We have launched Edgenuity courses. All students in grades 6-12 should have connected at this point. I am proud of the Virtual School team because our educators continue to reflect and refine in order to provide the very best for our students. Furthermore, collaborating with building principals has ensured that opportunities for Virtual School are identified and achieved as well.
Please review this newsletter as it has important information related to all Virtual School students.
Be well and stay strong.

Public Health Safety
Governor Charlie Baker recently signed several revisions to emergency orders. I always like to provide a link to ensure everyone has access to this crucial statewide public health information.
Looking forward, it is hard to ignore the tenor of State and National Public Health data. The research and trends indicate that there are challenges ahead, especially with the temptation to resume traditions with upcoming holidays. With that being said, this CDC article has been a great resource for me in processing this reality and supporting my own kids. We need to model and have a appropriate, open dialogue with students if they inquire about this. Be safe!

Remote Learning Personnel Update
We recently learned that our Grade 6, 7, and 8 Virtual School Wellness teacher, Ms. Garcia, will be leaving her role at the end of this week. We thank Ms. Garcia for her work and devotion to the wellness of our students.
Presently, we are in the process of conducting interviews and demo lessons for Ms. Garcia's replacement. The aim is to announce a new teacher for the Grade 6, 7, and 8 Virtual School Wellness position next week.
While we work on filling this position, all Grade 6, 7, and 8 Virtual School students are asked to fill their PE time with physical activities that allow for about 45-60 minutes of movement each day. The following are a few suggestions:
Walks
Runs
Sports
Yoga
Exercise videos
Dancing
Other wellness activities
A few free applications that students may choose to explore and support their wellness activities include:
Edgenuity
Our launch of Edgenuity has allowed us to address the scheduling needs for our students in grades 6-12. Though it was delayed, I am pleased to share the information from the October 23 Newsletter as a reference and resource.
We will be activating weekly student summaries for all guardians of Edgenuity students in the next week. as This is a great way to monitor your student’s progress and have supportive conversations with what they are learning. Should you not receive a weekly update by Monday, November 23, please email: bmenna@medwayschools.org
Material Pickup
Our next district wide Virtual School material pickup will be Wednesday, November 18 from 3:00-4:00 PM. Please know that teachers will contact you directly if there are materials for you to pick up at this time.

Conferences with Teachers
Each school will be scheduling and conducting conferences with families on various days. Please consult the building based communication at the four schools, regarding how to schedule and participate in this important experience. The partnership between our educators and families this year, perhaps even more than any other, is crucial for supporting our students' learning and growth.
