From the Principal
It's hard to believe we are already entering Week 3 of online learning. By this time, your child's teacher(s) should have reached out to you and your child. Our goal was to re-connect and re-engage your child to MPE Online school #NewNormal.
This coming week will be the last week of Katy ISD district created lessons. Staring the week of April 13, our teachers will take over the online instruction. Our teachers have been actively planning and preparing for taking over instruction utilizing Katy ISD District approved resources. Lessons are being prepared in Canvas, and your child will need their log in to access week 4 lessons and beyond.
I strongly suggest you prepare for this transition by making sure you and your child are able to log into Canvas. Let's use this week to make sure we get all technology issues worked out ahead of time. If you need any technology help, please contact the Katy ISD Parent Tech Support Center at http://www.katyisd.org/Parent-Student-Tech-Support/Pages/default.aspx. If you need a device, please complete a student tech request form as soon as possible at https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=4oq7MOZb2Ea0iUk_U8HEZeK760VOlfdAievdraRZOglUQzM4UEtVVDU5UzNaU0dOV0gxOEpLUkszUC4u.
I also ask for your continued patience, as we roll out week 4 of MPE teacher created online lessons. We ask for your support and flexibility as we prepare to teach our Panthers in a new way all the while working with all kinds of family situations. Our MPE online instruction will be designed in a way students are able to access lessons on their own schedules. We know there are many families sharing devices, Internet, and work spaces; and our goal is to continue to provide the highest quality lessons for every child.
At the top of this newsletter, there is a phone number you can call to talk to an MPE staff member Monday through Friday, during the hours of 8 am 4 pm. Now more than ever, we have to keep working together to get through this challenging time. We ALL are here for you and your child(ren)!
Your Proud Principal,
Dr. Martinez

Student Meals
Katy ISD partners with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) to provide free and reduced cost meal services such as the 'Grab and Go’ meals program for Katy children. Beginning March 31, 2020, the Nutrition and Food Services staff at all Katy ISD Grab and Go curbside locations will implement the below changes:
If child(ren) are present – no additional documentation is needed.
If child(ren) are not present - Parent/Guardian must provide one of the following items for all children 18 and under:

Katy ISD Emergency Email Notification System
During Katy ISD’s closure, the District is working to ensure that all essential messages are communicated to our school community through as many platforms as possible. The vendor for the District’s messaging system has informed that some intended recipients of school district notifications (including email, texts and voicemail) may not be receiving messages due to high volume use of their system across the nation at this time. For this reason, the District is re-implementing its use of emergency text notifications (text messages) to add an additional level of messaging to its already existing platforms — email, website, mobile app, social and news media. Emergency text notifications will only be used by the District central office for emergency and related information (i.e. school closings, weather conditions, etc.).
Parents/guardians who wish to receive emergency text notifications from the District should make certain that their mobile phone number is registered in the Home Access Center (HAC) contact form — specifically within the “Automated Contact Text” field. Please note that it will take at least 24 hours for the system to update and recognize new entries.
Detailed instructions on how to register your mobile number can be accessed here.
Once you have opted-in, emergency text notifications will arrive from a Katy ISD assigned number such as “606-80.” However, this origin number may differ for each mobile user, depending on the service provider. Because of this, Katy ISD will identify each District text with this opening, “Katy ISD: ...”
Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Parent and Student Technology Support Center here.

On March 13, 2020, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) launched the “Keep Americans Connected Pledge.” Ajit Pai, FCC Chairman, released a press release emphasizing the importance of keeping Americans connected as the country experiences serious disruptions caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. Most service providers pledged for the next 60 days to:
- not terminate service to any residential or small business customers because of their inability to pay their bills due to the disruptions caused by the coronavirus pandemic;
- waive any late fees that any residential or small business customers incur because of their economic circumstances related to the coronavirus pandemic; and open its Wi-Fi hotspots to any American who needs them.
Several major service providers have already taken the pledge. Please check with your service provider for their policies and services.
