St. Columba's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 1 | WEEK 7 | 18 MARCH 2021

To you, O blessed Joseph (Ad te, beate Ioseph)
To you, O blessed Joseph, do we come in our afflictions, and having implored the help of your most holy spouse, we confidently invoke your patronage also.
Through that charity which bound you to the Immaculate Virgin Mother of God and through the paternal love with which you embraced the child Jesus, we humbly beg you graciously to regard the inheritance which Jesus Christ has purchased by his blood, and with your power and strength to aid us in our necessities.
O most watchful guardian of the Holy Family, defend the chosen children of Jesus Christ; O most loving father, ward off from us every contagion of error and corrupting influence; O our most mighty protector, be kind to us and from heaven assist us in our struggle with the power of darkness.
As once you rescued the child Jesus from deadly peril, so now protect God’s Holy Church from the snares of the enemy and from all adversity; shield, too, each one of us by your constant protection, so that, supported by your example and your aid, we may be able to live piously, to die in holiness, and to obtain eternal happiness in heaven. Amen.
From the Principal
Dear St Columba’s school community,
It was lovely to see so many of our families come together as a whole school community over the weekend with the Sacramental Commitment Mass on Saturday night, followed by the P&F ‘Welcome Back’ Picnic on Sunday afternoon. On Monday, the Riverton Leisureplex came to life as the Year 4 – 6 students participated in the Swimming Carnival. It was great to see that the students took the advice from Year 2W and focused on teamwork throughout the carnival. Congratulations to our winners on the day. Thank you to Mr Chatt for organising the event and to all the parent helpers who volunteered their time.
Wednesday was a sea of green as the school celebrated St Patrick’s Day! Thank you to everyone for supporting this important cause and bringing in a gold coin donation, with all monies raised to go towards the Lord Mayor’s Bushfire Appeal.
Harmony Week is an important week as it celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity and how all of our differences make Australia a great place to live. To celebrate Harmony Week, the students are invited to wear traditional clothing or orange on Monday March 22 to highlight inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. I am very excited to see the many cultures that we have at St Columba’s on display.
A reminder that the Parent/Teacher interviews for students in Kindergarten to Year 6 will be held in the afternoons of Tuesday March 30 and Wednesday March 31. This is a great opportunity for parents to touch base with teachers and discuss any concerns they may have in relation to their child’s learning. All bookings need to be made through PTO Online and are for ten minutes duration.
Wishing everyone a lovely weekend!
God Bless
Rebecca Clarke

Swimming Carnival
On 15 March at Riverton Leisureplex Students in Years 4 to 6 attended the St Columba’s Swimming Carnival. The students represented their faction over various swimming strokes, distances, relays and novelty games. The students were wonderful sports people cheering their faction and competitors on.
At the end of the carnival it was MacKillop who proved themselves worthy to win the Carnival and trophy. Students that qualify (reserves if required) for the CAPSS Inter School Swimming Carnival can find the squad sheet listed besides the support room. A sheet was also given out to those students that qualified and parents can follow the links on it to fill out the permission note.
A special thank you to all the parent helpers and supporters who attended the event.
Kind regards
Leigh Chatt

Footy Tipping
Hello Parents and Families,
Football is back tonight with reigning premiers, Richmond playing Carlton.
Not had time yet to get registered for the Dad’s of St Columba’s (DOSCA) Footy Tipping Competition? Don’t stress, due to lower than expected registrations (so far we only have 12 registrations) we will start the comp from Round 3, this allows two more weeks to get registered for a season of fun.
Please see Lorraine or Andrea in the office and pay your $20 registration to receive the access code to register online and start tipping.
If you are unable to get to the school to pay to register, please connect with me on dosca.footytipping@gmail.com and we can look at how we can get you paid up and registered.
All funds raised contribute to our St Columba’s P&F.
We look forward (from Round 3 Thursday 1st April ) to having a bit of fun in 2021 with DOSCA Footy Tipping.
Regards
