Week 22
This is the weekly first grade newsletter! It will inform you of what is happening in first grade and at Wooden during the upcoming week. Scroll all the way through each week to stay in the loop! In every newsletter, you will find "What are we learning this week?," our weekly spelling words, school & grade-level announcements, and a video describing how to help your child with his/her reading homework! New books
What are we learning this week?
English Language Arts and Reading
We can demonstrate knowledge of distinguishing characteristics of well-known children's literature such as folktales, fables, fairy tales, and nursery rhymes.
Math
We can use relationships to determine the number that is 10 more and 10 less than a given number up to 99.
We can skip count by twos, fives, and tens to determine the total number of objects up to 99 in a set.
We can recite numbers forward and backward from any given number between 1 and 99.
Science
We can identify characteristics of seasons of the year.
Social Studies
We can identify historical figures such as Alexander Graham Bell, who exhibited inventiveness.
Library day is Tuesday for all of 1st grade
Spelling words
Below are the sight words, pattern words, and practice sentences that we will be learning in class and students should practice at home! Practice other words that follow the same patterns so students learn the pattern, not just the words!

*There WILL NOT BE a test on Friday.
-This week’s list is a little different. Students will still need to be able to read and write the sight words, but they will ONLY NEED TO SOUND OUT AND READ the pattern words.

School Report Card
The 2018-2019 School Report Card (SRC) is now available on the Texas Education Agency website at the link below. The school report card (SRC) combines accountability ratings, data from the Texas Academic Performance Reports (TAPR), and financial information to give a broad view of campus performance. Available for each campus in Texas, the SRC is intended specifically to inform parents and guardians about a school’s individual characteristics and its academic performance.

Planners
Your child's planner should come to and from school every day. It should be signed each night and the book read/minutes should be written down. Each Friday, your kiddo will write how many gold tags they earned that week. You may communicate through the planner. Your child could possibly also receive a signature for bad behavior, but we hope this does not happen!
