-Soaring Falcons-
May 2022 Edition
Principal's Message
Dear Falmouth Falcon Families,
As we enter this last month of the school year, we are reminded of how fortunate we are to be a part of the Falmouth Falcons' Family. It is up to ALL OF US to work together to promote a positive environment for our students and families. We can meet this goal by putting the needs of our students first.
As we work together, Falmouth Falcon Families are asked to:
1) Work with your child's teacher to help your student achieve his/her best
2) Seek answers correctly, if you do not understand something or are confused about the information being shared - for example, if you are unsure of the grading system, then reach out to your child's teacher
3) Refrain from engaging in misinformation via social media or other outlets
4) Spread positivity within your neighborhood and community through sharing reliable information or, if you do not know the correct information, point other families/community members toward those who have the answers - for example, classroom teachers, school counselors, and/or administration
Don't forget that our website contains a wealth of information. Be sure to check it out at:
https://www.staffordschools.net/FES
You are also encouraged to reach out to your child's teacher, school counselors, the school social worker, attendance clerk, and/or administration with any questions that may arise.
As we look to the 2022-2023 school year, we look to families to provide some vital information. You will find two links on our website, one labeled “Intent to Move” and the other labeled “Family Input.” We use these forms to prepare class lists for the 2022-2023 school year. If you are moving, we ask that you read the directions, complete the “Intent to Move,” and submit the form no later than May 16, 2022. If your child(ren) is returning to FES next year, you have the opportunity to provide input regarding the class environment in which your child learns best. If taking this opportunity, we ask that you read the directions, complete the “Family Input.” and submit the form no later than May 16, 2022.
We look forward to a very busy and productive last full month of school!
Thank you again for sharing your child(ren) with us each day!
Sincerely,
Dr. Burch (Principal)

Soprano Recorders are in!!! These may be purchased for $5 each, and the students may come DIRECTLY to me for payment. Please do not have your Falcons send the money to the office. Please remember that we are currently doing Recorder for grades 2nd-4th; however, if you have any younger Falcons, you may also go ahead and get one, since they will very likely be using them in the future. If you are interested in purchasing a different Recorder, I would highly recommend visiting West Music! They have a great variety of dependable options (i.e. Harmony, Angel, Yamaha). Lastly, I ask that you please DO NOT purchase off-brand Recorders from a non-music vendor (i.e. Dollar General, Walmart, Five Below). Those Recorders tend to be very poorly designed, and do not function properly. There is nothing more frustrating for a student when they are doing everything correctly, but cannot produce the correct sound. As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask!

PE News
We are so happy to be able to say that we had a spectacular Field day last week! The weather was perfect with plenty of sun and ideal temperatures. Every student at Falmouth had the opportunity to participate in 12 different games, activities, or challenges. It was almost unbelievable, yet very satisfying to see close to 200 students and 15 to 20 teachers running, throwing, kicking, balancing, and above all laughing together for the first time in a long time! As we were resting at the end of the day, we were already discussing Field Day 2022-2023!
At Falmouth Elementary, it will be a very busy last 4 weeks of school for everyone. In PE, students will continue to complete at least one Run for Fun a week, with the goal being to build our students’ stamina up to a 10 minute run/walk. Fourth and Fifth grade students will also be completing their spring physical fitness tests. We always like to finish the school year by doing a week of recreational sports stations where students get a small sample of some of the less traditional sports. After that, we will finish out the last week by revisiting a couple of our students’ favorite lessons/games.

Library News
Friday, May 6th is the last day for students to check out books from the library. Please return books by Friday, May 13 or earlier as we will start inventory. Look for those overdue/lost books, so we can get them back in the collection for others to borrow next school year. Access to eBooks will still be available through SORA located in the Google waffle. The county has not posted the summer reading list yet, but keep a look out on the division’s website for some great options for reading this summer. Relaxing with a book is a great way to enjoy the summer!

Hello again FES families, let’s talk screen time.
Children are spending more time on devices than ever so it is important to consider how much screen-time is right for your family. Setting screen-time limits and helping kids moderate their own habits is all about finding the right balance for your family's needs and lifestyle. Common Sense Media offers advice for creating a realistic schedule, setting age-appropriate guidelines on TV time, finding websites for young kids to use, handling violent media, and managing kids' cell phone use. Please visit their Screen Time Resource Page to get great age-specific guidance.
