OUR STORY - Shout Outs!
Wilson County Schools Highlights November 23-25, 2020
HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVE!!!
It's been a year unlike any other, and one thing is for certain - we will never take for granted seeing the smiling faces of our students again. We love each and every one of them and are so thankful for them. They are the reason for everything we do! Pictured are students in the NC Pre-K Program at Hearne ES showing off their creative turkey headbands! The students were taken outside one at a time for a picture, and their masks were removed just for a moment once the photographer was more than 6 feet away. We just had to see those precious smiles! We hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Covering Routes
Lucama ES Assistant Principal Dana Page wanted to Shout Out! all of the amazing bus drivers at Lucama ES - but especially Instructional Assistants Joy Mosley and Brandy Begley. Ms. Page shared - "They have stepped up and ensured our routes were covered. We are so grateful to have such reliable players on our Cardinal Team!”
Warm Donation
The staff at Daniels Learning Center wanted to Shout Out! Tina Proctor, WCS Purchasing Agent & Warehouse Manager, for her generosity and share this message with her - “Ms. Proctor, may your Holidays be filled with as much warmth as you provided for our students with your generous gift of cuddly blankets, fluffy hats, fuzzy socks and warm gloves!”
Top Honor
Shout Out! to Beddingfield HS Counselor Reginald Harris for being selected as the Citizen of the Year for the Beta Beta Beta Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity during the 74th Annual Virtual Achievement Week Recognition Breakfast on Nov. 14! Mr. Harris was recognized for his outstanding contributions of time and service to the chapter and his community. We congratulate him on this honor!
$20,000 Donation
Shout Out! to the Wilson County ABC Board for funding a substance abuse/alcohol awareness program that will be implemented in our elementary schools in the spring! The donation is worth $20,000, and we will share more details once the program is up and running. We appreciate the incredible generosity of the ABC Board and General Manager Larry Etheridge! Pictured from left are: ABC Board Chair Steve Brewer, Board Member Erin Day and Board Member Phil Batts.
All Star Educator
Congrats to English Teacher Kasey Hare for being recognized as the All Star Educator at Hunt HS! The school’s Leadership Team had this to say about Mrs. Hare - "Mrs. Hare developed a survey that allows her students to provide anonymous feedback on their experience with remote learning in her class. She asks students to give feedback on topics such as class workload, suggestions for reading selections, length of synchronous class session, suggestions for things she can do to improve the class and other factors that would impact the student's ability to be successful in class. Mrs. Hare uses the information to better understand her students' needs and to improve instruction. Thank you, Mrs. Hare, for obtaining this valuable feedback from our most important school stakeholders - the students!"
Donating Meals
Wilson Academy Of Applied Technology (WAAT) wanted to give a big SHOUT OUT! to Eric Barnes, Travis Baines, James Cox, Ali Talib, Calvin Mitchell and Eddie Hawkins from Wilson Brothers United for donating Thanksgiving meals to families this year! They have donated meals to WAAT, Beddingfield HS and Darden MS over the past two years. WAAT staff had this to say - “We are so grateful for the holiday love being spread by these gentlemen.”
School In The Spotlight - New Hope ES
Check out these pictures of students at New Hope ES taken earlier this week! Students in Ms. Cooper's class were making Thanksgiving turkeys out of donuts - we were all about that craft! - while down the hall, a class of kindergartners were up out of their seats dancing to a short video and were happy to pose for lots of pictures. We visited the class of New Hope's Teacher of the Year Ms. Harper where her fourth-graders were engaged in an assignment on their Chromebooks. In Ms. Mathison's math class, her fifth graders were listening so attentively as she explained instructions for their next activity that they didn't even turn to look at the guests who were taking pictures in their classroom! We saw lots of first-graders lined up quietly in the hallway. In Ms. Gore's class, her second-graders were selecting items from the prize box because of how hard they had worked that week, and we love how the students have a stuffed animal as a reading buddy - check out Corinne's unicorn buddy also wearing a mask! In Ms. Hunt’s class, we met some awesome third-graders who posed for a picture in front of the sunflowers outside their classroom. We couldn't see the precious smiles of our students behind their masks, but they have learned to "smile with their eyes" and were happy to share with us how excited they are to be back at school!
