Arkansas Alpha Delta Kappa
April 2020
Hello Sisters,
Hello sisters,
COVID 19 has made getting together at the local and state level impossible. However, headquarter has informed its members that we are not required to have the 9 meetings for this year. They have also suggested using the ZOOM app to initiate new members and having meetings if your Chapter is able. New officers for your Chapter can be sent to Headquarters on form H-107 whenever you are able to get your officers elected. If there is only one person for each office, you can elect them all together at once. It can be done on the phone, computer, etc.
The State Convention has been rescheduled until May 30 and the registration date has been moved back to May 15th. I am hoping and praying that we will be able to have our State Convention. Please send in your registration and if we have to cancel, your money will be refunded. I am looking forward to seeing everyone at the State Convention if it happens. Take care and stay home if you are able. We need to be cautious to not spread this virus to others. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

ALZHEIMER’S ASSOCIATION LONGEST DAY ACTIVITIES
We are again gearing up to become involved with the ENDALZ Campaign. Please start planning your Chapter’s activity to help raise donations for this worthy altruistic endeaver.
Just plan an activity that you all enjoy doing, it doesn’t have to be a strenuous activity! Plan dinner and a movie outing, plan an afternoon with lunch and a game of Bunco. It doesn’t even have to be done on June 21! The activity just needs to be completed and funds donated by August 10. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns. As always, thank you for all you do for Alpha Delta Kappa.

ATTENTION HISTORIANS by Patty Snipes, State Historian
As Historians I hope you’ve been taking lots of pictures of your chapter. I am working on the archives for our State President, Chanetta Case. She would like to have a page or two representing your chapter. I have given you a sample of a design. I used PowerPoint which would be fine for you to use unless you have another program you are comfortable with.
Be sure to include: list of officers, picture of your group, picture of your officers, pictures of some of your meetings or pictures of doing Altruistic projects.
3 options to send them:
- If you are not comfortable with PowerPoint or using a computer and would rather create a page on scrapbook paper you can mail it to me. 8 ½ x 11.
Patty Snipes, 120 Taylor Park Loop, LR, AR, 72211
- You can mail me the pictures with captions or names attached.
- Email information to me – plsnipes@sbcglobal.net
Please get this to me ASAP or at least by January. Start planning what you want on the page to represent your chapter.

World Understanding Project
Changes to the TEACH TOO World Understanding Project
By Sandy Wolfe, Chairman of the International Executive Board
Information Shared by Melissa Young, Director of Imagine Missions
Due to several months of political unrest and rioting in Haiti, the TEACH TOO Project came to a halt shortly after the first two homes were built. The school was closed for safety reasons and in December Melissa made a trip to Haiti. All of the parents were able to attend a meeting at the orphanage and the children were reunited with family members. Many of the “orphans” were children who had been given up by their families to the orphanage so they could receive an education. There are only three “true” orphans who received placement.
Before school reopened, Imagine Missions conducted research on the best orphan care around the world. Their research showed the best possible environment for children to grow up to be successful individuals was in a family, their own family if possible. Imagine Missions was able to partner with Haiti Mama, an organization that specializes in reunification.
Imagine Missions wants to make the shift to offering the families social services to help them keep their children at home. Imagine Missions will continue to provide free schooling, transportation to and from school, a free meal at school, free trade school, medical and parenting support classes.
So how does that impact TEACH TOO? Melissa said, ”We would like to turn the TEACH TOO building project into a professional school. The two homes that have already been built would be the administration offices and then with the money we have left we would construct 10 to 12 additional classrooms and put up the security wall around the building. We would run classes 6 days a week, 3 days for our young adults and 3 days for job training for our parents. The trades being offered would include sewing, electrical training, plumbing, tiling, mechanics, barbering, beautician, metal art, jewelry making, computers and carpentry. It would become life-giving education for hundreds of people.”
Melissa shared an update on the political situation in Haiti with the International Executive Board (IEB) via GoToMeeting in January and presented the revised proposal and extensive documentation to the IEB in February at a second GoToMeeting. The International Executive Board approved the revised proposal on February 18, 2020.
Building should resume in early April and be completed by June 2020. Melissa plans to present a workshop at each Regional Conference to share the final updates of the program.
