McKay High School Weekly Newsletter

Week of January 30 thru February 3rd

Message from the Admin Team

We have finally arrived to the end of the first semester. Students schedules will be altered, no school on Thursday and Friday of this week (Feb. 2 -- 3). We will be hosting parent teacher conferences on Friday, be sure to use the link below to schedule a time to come in and meet with our parents. Recently we have seen an increase in student behavior that doesn't meet the school nor district's expectation, we are looking for some help within the community that would be willing to partner with the school administration to draw up some potential creative solutions. If that seems appealing to you, please contact our main office to connect with one of the McKay Admin team. We recognize that many of these behaviors are caused by several factors, as a staff we are dedicated to working towards solutions that honor our diversity of experience while maintaining our high standards.

Shout Outs (Academic, Athletics, Activities)

As so many other weeks, last week was a busy one, below you can read about some of the things happening around our school, as well as see a few pictures of these events. Congratulations go out to all students and staff that continue to represent our community in the most positive of ways.

Thanks to all who supported our production of Descendants. Our students, under the direction of Tiffany Carstensen and with the help of other McKay teachers, did a phenomenal job!

Congratulations to our Speech and Debate team who, for the first time since before COVID, competed in McMinnville on Saturday, January 28. They hope to compete in Reynolds and Oregon City in the upcoming months! Please congratulate Piper and Seth. Thanks, Mr. Blommendahl, for your work with these talented students!

Scots-appella competed in the ICHSA West Quarterfinal on Friday, January 27 in Sherwood. Patrick won best vocal percussion and our Scots won best choreography, as well as FIRST place overall! Next stop: California! Congrats Scots-appella! Way to represent McKay High School!

Two of our Custodial Staff were recognized by the district for their excellence. This past week Craig Richards and Christopher Bartruff were awarded the "Golden Broom," for their continued service to McKay High School.

Both our Boys and Girls Basketball teams will be in action this week, with out Boys team playing at home on Tuesday evening, while our Girls team return home for a Friday game vs. Crescent Valley. Please join us and show your support.

Finally, our Girls Wrestling program led by head coach Logan Fore traveled to Windsor California this past weekend for a tournament. Our students performed well against some very tough competition. Congratulations Lady grapplers.
