Commemoration details-The Lone Pine Memorial (Panel 37), Gallipoli, Turkey
The Lone Pine Memorial, situated in the Lone Pine Cemetery at Anzac, is the main Australian Memorial on Gallipoli, and one of four memorials to men of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. Designed by Sir John Burnet, the principal architect of the Gallipoli cemeteries, it is a thick tapering pylon 14.3 metres high on a square base 12.98 metres wide. It is constructed from limestone mined at Ilgardere in Turkey.
The Memorial commemorates the 3268 Australians and 456 New Zealanders who have no known grave and the 960 Australians and 252 New Zealanders who were buried at sea after evacuation through wounds or disease. The names of New Zealanders commemorated are inscribed on stone panels mounted on the south and north sides of the pylon, while those of the Australians are listed on a long wall of panels in front of the pylon and to either side. Names are arranged by unit and rank.
The Memorial stands over the centre of the Turkish trenches and tunnels which were the scene of heavy fighting during the August offensive. Most cemeteries on Gallipoli contain relatively few marked graves, and the majority of Australians killed on Gallipoli are commemorated here.

Gallipoli
Disrupting
On the 25th of April 1915 some of the Anzac corps approached the west side of the Gallipoli war to ruin the Turksih sea communication. Once the Turkish found out what the Anzacs were doing they strengthened their troops, laid alot of mines and got spotlights out to search for the opposing team.
Landing
At 1am in the morning troops had to get up out of bed and have a hot meal and once they had finished they had to go and fight. Some of the troops were falling down the ladder and swearing because they had to hurry. Not that long after the Anzacs had landed they realised that they had landed in the wrong landing spot.
the 13th Battalion
The 13th Battalion started in September 1914, six weeks after the World War 1. As the 14th 15th and 16th Battalion came they formed the 4th Brigade.
The Brigade embarked in December 1914, after a little stop in Western Australia and Albany they were getting closer to Egypt. They arrived in Egypt in Febuary 1915. Once the 4th Brigade arrived in Egypt they were a New Zealand and Australian division.
