Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 20th January 2017
gurdwara visit
year 6 educational visit
Year 6 enjoyed a visit to a Gurdwara in Bradford on Tuesday. They learned about the Guru Granth Sahib, the 5 Ks and were able to examine and learn more about Sikh artefacts. They had some thoughtful questions and were a credit to the school.
inspiring our children
Megan's daddy Mr Metcalfe inspired the Year 2 children on Monday morning. To support the children's work on inventors and inventions, with the help of the children in the class, he made a bridge without using any rope, screws or nails. Megan even tested it see if it would hold her weight and luckily she's still in one piece. Thank you again for coming in!

parent information opportunities
Monday 23rd January - for Year 2 and Year 6 parents only - Miss Hardy and Mrs McCormick will explain the end of key stage SATs. We are running two sessions, 3.15-4pm and 6-6.45pm, so please attend whichever is more convenient for you.
Friday 10th February - school is closed for pupils so that we can have another successful day of parent-teacher appointments. Please look out for the separate letter with more details coming home soon.
Thursday 2nd March - to coincide with World Book Day, Mrs McCormick will be running an English workshop which will feature a chance to go into classes. This will be during the day so, as well as learning more to support your child's learning, you will also get the opportunity to experience all those World Book Day costumes!
Thursday 9th March - Miss Hardy will run a Mathematics workshop - details to follow.
weekly reading raffle
As promised in the last Update, here is our regular feature comparing the weekly reading numbers in each class. This week, our leading class is Year 6 again, with 94% of children reading 5 or more times (as noted in their reading record and signed by a parent or carer) - congratulations Year 6! However, the challenge is still on, as they have actually gone down, whereas our lower performers last week have made some good improvements. Well done Years 1 to 4 for increasing your percentage, keep it up!
help please
We really appreciate all our volunteers and they come in to do anything from listening to readers to gardening (to building wooden bridges!). In the next week or so, it would really help us if a few people could come in to help us edit our Read Write Inc books (which we use to teach the younger children to read). We need to cut out and stick in lists of words but it seems to be taking up a lot of our teaching assistants' time. If you could lend a hand, please let Mrs Bingham know, many thanks.
