College & Scholarship Newsletter

Beginning of the School Year

Hello Students and Parents!

Welcome back, students! The 2020-2021 school year is going to be different for all of us. Even though things are different, your counselors are still here for you during the college application and scholarship process. Reach out to your individual counselor for assistance.

The world of scholarships is wide and deep, and there are MANY different kinds of scholarships available for all different types of circumstances. Students are encouraged to look at the websites for the colleges to which they are applying for specific scholarship information. The goal of these newsletters will be to share upcoming scholarship deadlines, scholarship search databases, as well as, the scholarship list that was compiled by ACRHS counselors that has information on over 300 scholarships, and upcoming scholarship deadlines. The ACRHS counseling office has an extensive website that has information on scholarships and many other topics. Students and parents can also follow the counseling office on Instagram @ACRHS_Counseling for news and updates.

In this issue, you can find important college application and financial aid dates, searchable scholarship databases, and a scholarship spotlight that features the Gates, Questbridge College Match, and Roan scholarships which have some of the earliest deadlines of the scholarship season. Attached to the email that sent this newsletter is a one-sheet document (Courtesy of Devon McCarthy-James at CFNC) that lists and has information about 5 NC Merit school-specific scholarships (The Cheatham-White at NCCentral, The EC Scholars at ECU, The Levine at UNC Charlotte, The Morehead-Cain at Chapel Hill, & The Park at NC State). Scroll down to the end of this newsletter for a video produced by CFNC that outlines the application process for the 5 NC merit scholarships listed above. Contact Ms. Walters if you meet the requirements and are interested in applying for one of the above scholarships that require a nomination.

Applying and seeking out scholarships can be an involved process. It takes someone who is a go-getter, someone who is persistent, resourceful, and not afraid to ask questions! Students, make sure to check your email over the next few weeks for an invite to an online scholarship workshop hosted by Ms. Walters and Ms. McCreary.

*Please note that some scholarships are currently reevaluating their 20/21 deadlines. If that is the case, last year's deadlines are still posted. Visit the individual websites of any scholarship you are interested in to get the most recent info.
