School Meals: Free & Reduced and Expanded Income Eligibility Programs
We recognize the impact that returning to paid school meals this year can have on family budgets, and encourage parents/guardians to complete an eligibility application to determine if your family qualifies for free or reduced meals -- even if your family may not have been eligible under federal guidelines in past years. The Oregon Expanded Income Eligibility Group (EIG) supports families who do not qualify for meal benefits using federal income guidelines. It provides meal benefits to households with incomes above 185%, but not exceeding 300%, of the federal poverty guidelines.
To apply for either Federal or EIG free/reduced meal eligibility, please complete the Online Free and Reduced Meal Application. For more details on income-based eligibility, please click the image below to access the Federal and Oregon Expanded Income Eligibility charts for the 2022-23 school year.

Student Parking Information
Beginning Monday October 3rd, Sophomores who have a current driver’s license can apply for a parking permit, however they are not allowed to park on campus until they have purchased and picked up their parking permit. Applications are reviewed in the order they are submitted. Once approved, a fee will be added to the student’s account. The student then needs to bring their receipt to the Main Office to obtain their parking permit. The application can only be accessed if the student is logged into their school google account.
As a reminder, all students who park on campus must have a current parking permit displayed from their rear view mirror at all times. Any vehicle without a parking permit displayed will receive a ticket and possibly be towed. The lower student lot is for permitted seniors only, all other students must park in the upper level parking lots. Students are never allowed to park in visitor’s parking.
OHSU Covid-19 Testing Program
We are partnering with OHSU again this year to offer free, weekly COVID-19 testing for students. Participation in this program is completely optional and offered regardless of vaccination status. Participating students will drop off spit samples in pre-labeled tubes at school each week, whether they have symptoms or not, and those samples will be sent to OHSU for testing. Many aspects of the screening program will remain the same as last year, with a few changes to make it easier for parents and students.
What’s new?
Starting today, you can enroll your child(ren) through a convenient online portal at www.labfinder.com/ohsu. If you have trouble with the enrollment portal for any reason, please call OHSU support at (503) 418-8500. All students wishing to participate must re-enroll, even if they participated in last year's program
Test samples can be collected either the night before or the morning of their school’s testing day
When the test results are available you will receive an email prompting you to log into the online portal at www.labfinder.com/ohsu to view the results
If you miss your weekly testing drop-off day at school, OHSU has added 3 drop-off sites around the Portland metro area
New, pre-labeled test tubes with a scannable barcode will be mailed directly to your mailing address and should arrive within a week of enrollment. Kits from last year cannot be used, so please throw them away.
What stays the same?
No cost to families
Highly accurate molecular testing, known as PCR
Students will continue to bring their samples to school for drop off on the designated day (for all SSD schools, drop off day will be on Thursday mornings)
OHSU nurses will call the family of any student whose test was detected or found inconclusive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19

SSD Parents - We want your feedback!
The Sherwood School District is conducting a community engagement process as we assess how to best meet the needs of our students and families. As part of this process, we are currently providing parents/guardians with the opportunity to complete a needs assessment survey, to provide important feedback to our district.
Information about this process was recently shared at Back to School Night events and the elementary and middle school levels; the information from those presentations can be found here.
To complete our parent/guardian survey, please visit bit.ly/3DmQiCh or scan the QR code to the right to access our online survey. To complete the survey in Spanish, please visit bit.ly/3Su2OUC.
Sherwood Youth Soccer Club needs your help!
SYSC relies on volunteers to paint playing field lines each week during their fall season. If your student is looking for community service hours and has free time Thursday or Friday afternoons through October, this is a great opportunity.
Each field takes 30-45 minutes. Initial field layout, easy to use painting equipment, and striping paint are supplied by SYSC, we just need volunteers willing to trace the existing lines .
If you are interested, please contact fields@sherwoodsoccer.org or have your student talk to Mr. Farrand in M147.
PSO
The PSO is in need of new board members for several positions to keep this very valuable organization running. Please reach out to sherwoodhspac@gmail.com for more information about how you can be involved.
Join the over 1,100 parents who follow our "Sherwood High School - Parent Support Organization" Facebook page to keep current on announcements and volunteer opportunities. The SHS Parent Support Organization (PSO) exists to promote meaningful and active parent involvement in programs and activities that support student success while in attendance and post-graduation.

SRO Corner - Officer James Wolfer, Sherwood Police Department
Hello SHS Parents,
Let’s talk about social media safety, something I have also discussed recently on the Sherwood Police Department’s Facebook page. I know the last time I posted about this topic, some parents thought I was advocating for invading their kids' privacy. I want to be clear-I’m not suggesting that. I simply try to educate parents about current issues so that parents can have informed conversations with their children, and can make informed parenting decisions.
Teens these days really aren’t using Facebook. Some are, but not like you and I are. They’re on Instagram, Tik Tok, and Snapchat.
Snapchat is a social media application which allows its users to send text messages, picture and video messages. Photos and videos sent using Snapchat will disappear forever after a certain time once the other party has “read” the message - as long as neither person saves the message or screenshots it. When kids say they are “texting” their friends, they usually mean messaging them on Snapchat.
Snapchat also has a secret picture vault that most parents are not aware of: “My Eyes Only.” Kids use this to hide pictures from their parents and other prying adult eyes. Some students keep nude/partially nude photos and videos of multiple of their classmates and themselves, ready to send out or show someone at a moment’s notice.
As parents, it’s a good idea to know what your kids may be keeping from you, especially when it comes to nude photos or videos - for more information on that topic, please see my previous post on the SPD’s Facebook page about “sexting.” You may be saving your kid’s life (or another child’s life!)
Here’s how to check your kids’ secret Snapchat vault:
- Open the Snapchat application on their phone (yellow icon with white ghost). This will open up the main picture taking page; you should see a live image ready to take a photo.
- Below the “take a photo” button (large circle at bottom of the screen) there is a small icon that looks like two playing cards. Press the two playing cards icon. You will be in their memories photos which are some of the photos they have taken with the Snapchat camera.
- Along the top of the photos you should see some labels “SNAPS, CAMERA ROLL, MEMORIES, and MY EYES ONLY”. Press the MY EYES ONLY button.
- If you don't see MY EYES ONLY this means the MY EYES ONLY is not being used and you need not worry yet.
- If the phone pops up with a PIN entry keypad you will need the code from your kid. Standard answers when you ask your kid for their PIN is that they forgot or they never set it up. They’re more than likely lying to you. You’ll need to have a different conversation with them at this point about getting you the passcode. If you need help with this conversation, please feel free to reach out to me at the high school.
- Once past the secret pin, you will see the photos your kids usually don’t want you to see. Understand you are still not seeing the private disappearing Snap Chat messages they send back and forth to each other.
There will be more to come on this topic in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!
Happy parenting,
Officer Wolfer
