Principal's Message
Hope the first week with the new virtual schedule went well. I have heard tons of positives and it’s been great to observe in some classrooms. You all are doing a phenomenal job! Our scholars are learning so much during this unorthodox time of teaching. Next week, 1st and 2nd graders will be preparing for MAP testing by taking practice tests. Official MAP testing occurs September 21-October 1. Kinder team please send some shine and love to our 1st and 2nd grade teams as their scholars get ready to show how much their little brains have been growing!

General Academic Deliverables
- Academic Pushes
Habits of Discussion: New Push: When a scholar responds to a question, scholars should automatically agree/disagree/or add on. You can prompt them by shrugging your shoulders, or saying a keyword like “respond”.
Continued Push: When a scholar gives a correct answer and all scholars agree, neutrally ask at least one more scholar “why they agree” or “how do they know?”
Progress Reports: Please ensure all grades are into Illuminate by Tuesday, September 15th at 8 A.M. We want to ensure that all grades are in before Progress Reports go out so that families get a full picture of where their scholar is performing.
- 1st and 2nd Grade Only: Map Presentation Linked. Please continue to reference this slide deck over the next 3 weeks.

Dean of SEL
Thank you for another great week of virtual learning! In the SEL lesson of the week, I will be reading What Can A Citizen Do by Dave Eggers and Shawn Harris. This is a beautiful story about how a community can come together to accomplish something, and also that a single voice matters. I will tie this book to the habit of the month. Please continue to encourage scholars to watch the SEL lessons, as they pertain to Leader in Me, and trends that parents and teachers are asking about.
Additionally, I will begin to highlight important dates and celebrations in this section, and you are encouraged to discuss these dates with your scholars in morning meeting!
September 15- October 15: Hispanic Heritage Month!

- Use those active listening skills to really hear what others are saying
- Assume the best of others
- Try hard not to be defensive when solving a problem, or managing a conflict
- See it from the other person’s perspective

Teacher Spotlight
Core Value - Achievement
Tiffany Johnson truly embodies the value of ACHIEVEMENT. TIffany is always striving for her students to achieve by giving them unique opportunities to learn and grow. Recently, Tiffany used a tool we learned in PD (Flipgrid) in her virtual classroom. Tiffany also leads her 2nd grade team of adults to achievement. She is always asking questions and coming to the table with solutions for all. Tiffany is not only an amazing teacher, but she does it all while being a full-time mom. We’re so lucky that Tiffany chooses to share her gifts with us at EEP!
