A note from the principal
Hello North Salem High School Community! The entire staff at North Salem hopes this message finds you well, and your student successful in their academic development and pursuits at North. Much appreciation to the parents and guardians who met with teachers during 1,392 teacher conferences. The best educational opportunity comes from close school partnership with families to ensure we are aligned and supporting each other.
Several opportunities have come to light where school-family teamwork is essential. Our hope is that you will please have these conversations at home so we can continue our work to equitably educate, support, and inspire students.
- Be in Class on Time! Early is On Time- Arriving to class before the start of class is essential to learning, and the learning environment. When students arrive to class early, they demonstrate their pride in our school and the opportunities we provide. Classes, and learning, can begin on time when students are in their classes, ready to participate before the bell rings. Please help us to ensure your student is not tardy to class.
- Attend All Your Classes! Earning credits, learning, and inspiration takes place inside the classroom. Please help us to ensure your student is not missing class. When students are sick, we ask they remain home, but when healthy we ask that they attend every class, on time, for the full class period. Please monitor your student’s attendance, and if they are absent or skipping, talk to your students and reach out to the school. Together we must ensure that your student is learning, and earning the required credits towards graduation.
- Ask for help! Self-advocacy is a skill that must be practiced. Every adult at North Salem is here to serve your student. Students, parents, and guardians are welcome to email and call teachers, counselors, and administrators. We are here to help. Students should talk to their teachers and ask for the help they need. The NSHS Library is open every day, all day, and after school with a Tutoring Center to support students.
- Make Great Choices! Please speak with your student about this beautiful building and how keeping it clean and well maintained shows pride in our community. Both the historic and new sides of the NSHS campus are symbolic of the new and old traditions at our school. The pride we show in our building demonstrates the pride and importance of our work. Please encourage your student to honor and show pride in their school. Keep our campus clean and safe.
We are proud to be Vikings! Thank you for helping our students feel that pride through encouraging their positive and productive actions on campus.
Go VIKS!

COLLEGE & CAREER CENTER
A message from the College and Career Coach, Mrs. Munguia
It is FAFSA/ORSAA time! Our focus this month is to help our Vikings complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid also know as FAFSA for short. ORSAA is the alternative of the FAFSA. Students with a valid social security number will complete the FAFSA. Students that do not have a valid social security number will complete the ORSAA.
The College and Career Center (room 110) is a space created for our students to help guide them through completing the FAFSA/ORSAA. Students that complete the FAFSA/ORSAA are more likely to attend college after high school. Students can also stop by to learn more about scholarships!
Feel free to reach out to your College and Career Coach is you have any questions or concerns.
