Huggins Highlights
Parents and teachers, this year's spring open house event is being reinvented as a Course Selection Night/Elective Fair, and it is just around the corner! It will take place on Thursday, January 23rd, with the 5th grade parent meeting in the cafeteria at 6pm and the course selection Q&A and informational elective fair following at 6:30pm for our current 6th and 7th grade students.
Teachers, it is also the season of student visits! Our upcoming 5th grade students will be on campus during 1st-3rd period on Thursday, January 23rd (for those of you who are new, anticipate having a good chunk of your fine arts students in the program). Additionally, our 8th graders will be visiting their high school campus on Friday, 1/17. Anticipate 8th graders being out from the beginning of the day until just before lunch. More information will be coming out from Mr. Coleman soon!
Parents, one more reminder, the new cell phone/headphone policy went live last week. Students are now required to put away cell phones and headphones before entering the classroom each period, and will not be allowed to use them during instructional time. They can still use phones before and after school, at lunch, and briefly during passing periods. In addition, students are no longer allowed to use wireless headphones for instructional purposes. Every student will need wired headphones that plug into their Chromebook for school. Please help us have this conversation with your Bearcubs at home. As always, if you need to get in touch with your student you can call the front office, any of the grade level offices or attendance and we can send for them. Thank you for supporting our effort to provide an excellent learning environment for our Bearcubs.

We are still looking for WATCH D.O.G.S.!® This is an innovative program focusing on education and safety in schools by using the positive influence of fathers and father-figures for a two-fold purpose:
1. To provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important.
2. To provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security and reduce bullying.
Fathers, stepfathers, grandfathers, male guardians and uncles are asked to spend at least one day at their student’s school volunteering. They will support the school through:
monitoring the school property, working one-on-one or in small groups, reading, helping with work, listening ears, or whatever else needs to be done to PLANT SEEDS OF SUCCESS in the lives of the students.

Last Week's Kleb Teacher of the Week--Amy Smith--CTE Teacher
I am nominating Amy Smith as teacher of the week for empathy, kindness, and leadership as she consistently challenges her students and cheerleaders at all times. Amy has done a terrific job sponsoring the cheer team here at Kleb and they represent our school in a positive manner throughout the district. She puts in a lot of time with the girls and it shows as they are truly one of the best cheer squads in the district.

Parent Reminder--Dismissal Procedures
Car Riders
Car rider parents will turn on Lyons School Road from either Louetta Road or Stuebner-Airline. Parents will enter at the north entrance to the Klein High School student parking lot. Look for the sign. Parents will then form two lanes along the curb, up until the sign indicating the stopping point. When your student arrives, a staff member will direct you to exit past the band and to the right so that you can exit through the south exit of the parking lot. If your student will not be immediately ready to be picked up after school, parents will need to park in one of the parking spots to wait for their child. If you do park in a parking spot to wait for your child, use extreme caution when backing out of the parking space. Students have been instructed to cross to the Klein High parking lot at the cross walk with an employee. See the image below for an aerial view.
As a reminder, there is no afternoon pickup at the front of the school due to the potential safety issue as traffic backs up onto Louetta. Thank you again for understanding our need to keep our Bearcubs safe.
Bus Riders
The first round of buses will be dismissed promptly at 4:25 after a last call for those buses has been made in the cafeteria. Once the first bus begins to roll, for student safety, no student will be allowed to enter the bus lot or get on a bus. After the first bus has started to depart, there is no way to communicate with the driver and it is unsafe for students to be in the bus lot. After the first round of buses has been dismissed, the second round of buses will be called as they arrive and will depart as soon as they have been loaded.

Attendance Counts
Did you know you can now report an absence in Skyward? Click HERE for more information.
Any student who is absent for the whole day is required to produce one of the following within 5 days of their absence(s):
- Parent Note
- Parent email (within 5 days of absence)
- Original medical note (copies or altered notes will not be accepted)
- Faxed notes must be sent from physician’s office
- Court note
- Official note for observance of approved religious holy days
***If a student is absent for part of the day for a doctor appointment, their absence will be coded as Section 25 (temporary absence) if the student follows the following procedure: The student must return the doctor excuse to the Attendance Office immediately upon returning to school to receive the Section 25 coding for their absence.
If a student does not produce one of the items listed above within the allotted timeframe, that absence will be considered unexcused and counted toward their total semester absences.
Klein ISD takes attendance very seriously, and we want to see your child succeed at Kleb. If you have any questions regarding attendance, please feel free to contact the attendance office or your assistant principal.
Additional attendance information can be found starting on page 27 of the handbook.
