School Mission Statement
"First Street School is dedicated to guiding students to become positively contributing citizens and life-long learners."
Principal's Office
Here is our Roadrunner Weekly for the week of April 25th through May 2nd. As a reminder, schools will remain closed for the remainder of the school year. I will continue to send reminders and new info through Facebook and our school app (see directions below on how to add it to your smartphones), as well as an updated Roadrunner Weekly every Sunday. Please know that if you need anything during this time, don't hesitate to email me and we'll provide you with any assistance possible. Also, one major change is that Miss Norma, our school secretary, will be available to take calls on Thursdays from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM until the end of the school year.
Remember, the district and our school are working hard to make any and all resources available to our families during this difficult time - important information on tech support, food distribution, reimbursements, and mental health support among other things can be found below. As for student personal items in the classrooms, some teachers have begun passing those back through our instructional materials distributions (see "Week at a Glance" and "Save the Date" below for dates); look for more information on that as well as spring pictures and Yearbook distribution info in the weeks to come.
The next few sections below also contain links to websites and resources for easier access, so please read through them all. Lastly, please check out our staff websites as I have asked teachers to continue to update them with relevant information throughout our time away from school.
Stay healthy and safe, and remember to feel free to email your teachers and myself directly if you have any further questions or need support or help in any way!

This goes to our technology department and they can assist them. Remember, this is only for technical issues with the loaned Chromebooks. They cannot assist with other computers or programs."
Meals for Students - Tuesday, April 28th
From the District Office & Food Service Dept.:
MAJOR CHANGE – PLEASE HAVE ROOM IN YOUR CAR TRUNK OR REAR OF YOUR SUV FOR THE FOOD. THIS WILL HELP US MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCING AND KEEP OUR WORKERS AND YOU SAFE.
We are set for food distribution on Tuesday, April 28th, 2020, starting at 11:00 at three locations. We are preparing 14,000 meals serving 1,400 students. We had adequate food for our last distribution so we are hoping to do the same next week.
Here are the details (please read all of the bullets):
- We will provide meals (breakfast and lunch) to all WPUSD area students who are 18 years of age or younger.
- Both breakfast and lunch meals (cold packs) can be picked up at the locations below
(McBean Park, Lincoln High School, Glen Edwards Middle School)
- Each student will receive 5 breakfasts and 5 lunches
- The distribution will begin at 11:00
- There is no charge for the food and you do not need to qualify as low income to receive the meals. All our students are welcome.
- An equal amount of food is at each location, pick the one most convenient to you
- Students must be present to receive food
- Please follow the directions of personnel on site so we can maintain social distancing. All personnel will be wearing masks and gloves based on the recent Placer County Health recommendation.
- There is no onsite eating allowed.
- Please remember some of the meals you will receive, contain items that must be refrigerated within two hours of receiving them. Leaving food out too long at room temperature can cause bacteria to grow and therefore will be unsafe to consume.
* The Placer County Food Bank is active in Lincoln and I have attached their flyer at the end of this email."
Refunds/Retrieving Items/Graduation
"Refunds - I wanted to update you on the status of refunds. We know many of you donated money for activities or sports that your students were unable to participate. The school secretaries are compiling this information for us and we act on giving refunds as soon as possible.
Retrieving Items – Many families are calling to retrieve items that were left behind when we closed schools. With the current Shelter in Placer order, individuals are not allowed to go in and retrieve items. We will do this before the end of the school year on June 5, 2020.
Graduation/Promotion – Our middle schools are planning a commemoration for 8th grade promotion and the high schools are looking at many options to celebrate our 12th grade graduates. 5th grade activities will be coordinated by individual school sites, so be on the lookout for info from your site principal and/or 5th grade teacher. More on this soon."

5th Grade Puberty Education
FSS 5th grade families,
One of the things we normally cover in 5th grade is puberty education. Specially designed for 5th grade girls and boys, the Always Changing & Growing Up Puberty Education Program offers resources to help educators and parents teach the important topics of puberty and development.
Typically, this would be something we could cover with your kids at the end of 5th grade (with your permission). This year, however, due to our school closure, we will need to share our resources with you and let you decide how you would like to share them with your 5th grade student. Attached below are the following:
- Parent Permission Letter
- Teacher Instructional Guide
- Teacher Presentation

Additional resources can be found by clicking this link and visiting the P&G School Programs site itself. If you have any questions, feel free to email your 5th grade teachers and/or me, and we'll be glad to help in any way we can.
District Office Update on Grading During School Closures
From Kerry Callahan - Deputy Superintendent of Educational Services
Access to Instructional Links
One of the main questions we receive is where to go to find links for the various school learning tools and resources available. Click here to go to the "Homework Help" link. It can also be found under "Students" on our First St. School website.
From there, you can also access the Clever link which I've attached here directly. This is the site where kids can log in with their badges if they use them or with their district email and student ID number (if you need help finding either, please email me or your student's teacher). iReady and other instructional sites and resources can be accessed here.
Another important location to check frequently is the teacher websites themselves which can be found by clicking here. Teachers will be updating these throughout the week(s), so check back once or twice a week to stay current on classroom, school, and district updates.
And lastly, If you are looking for additional educational websites to help your child learn from home, here is a list taken from an article posted on Swing Education (20 Online Learning Resources to Get You through Coronavirus School Closures). Here's the link to the article: https://swingeducation.com/resources/20-online-learning-resources-to-help-you-get-through-coronavirus-school-closures/ Many, if not all, of the websites are offering FREE online learning opportunities for students, so it's worth exploring them with your children.
