PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
DHS Families,
Thank you all for your cooperation and understanding as we navigated the soft lockdown last week and the social media bomb threat over the weekend. As a principal, my priority is student and staff safety. I am thankful to have a CSD Director of Safety and Security and the Decatur Police Department as partners in this work!
We have some wonderful things to celebrate as a community so check out our social media presence on Facebook and Instagram. Ms. Shelkoff, DHS Instructional Technologist, is working with our students to develop content to share on a regular basis!
Our Performing Arts department has some shows coming up so be on the look-out for ticket information!
It is a pleasure to serve the DHS community!

LETTERS TO SALA - You won’t want to miss this amazing show!
The Decatur High School Intermediate Advanced Acting Ensemble will be performing “Letters to Sala” October 20th-23rd at the DHS Performing Arts Center. Tickets can be purchased at decaturperforms.org.
Adapted from the book Sala’s Gift by Ann Kirschner and based on a true account, LETTERS TO SALA is a remarkable story of a young girl’s survival during wartime Germany. Five years. Seven Nazi labor camps. Over 350 hidden letters. Sala Garncarz Kirschner kept her secret for over fifty years, concealing her incredibly painful history in a Spill and Spell box. Everything changes when Sala reveals the cache to her grown daughter, Ann. LETTERS TO SALA draws from the emotional journeys that begin for both Ann and Sala when the letters resurface. Through scholarly research, Ann discovers that her mother has made a historically significant impact on Holocaust documentation. As Ann processes her own reaction to her mother’s story, her daughters, Caroline and Elisabeth, also realize for the first time the weight of their Jewish heritage.

DHS Fencing Club Makes History!
The DHS Fencing Club made history early this October as they represented Decatur in their very first Georgia High School Fencing League (GHSFL) tournament at Pope High School in Marietta, GA. Our club fenced high schools from across the Atlanta Metro including Innovation Academy, Pinecrest, North Springs, Lamber, Johns Creek, Walton, Dunwoody, Milton, and Pope high schools. All of our competing club athletes scored touches and most won victories during pool bouts, with several advancing out of pools to the direct elimination round – which is an incredible achievement for any first-time fencer. Our top finishers included Gigi Fortuna, who finished 35th out of 47 in the Women’s Division, and Rory King, who finished 22nd out of 79 in the Men’s Division.
Congratulations to all of our students participating in the new Fencing Club this year!!
