The Curtis Connection
December 6, 2019
MR. MELA'S MESSAGE
Dear Families,
Members of the Sudbury community are invited to attend a presentation about vaping this coming Monday, December 9, at 6:30 p.m. at Curtis Middle School.
The presentation will be given by Mary Cole, Program Coordinator of the Greater Boston Tobacco-Free Community Partnership. The Tobacco-Free Community Partnership is dedicated to educating residents and decision-makers in cities and towns across the Commonwealth, updating them on the impacts of tobacco use in all of its forms, as well as the most effective strategies for curbing tobacco use in their communities.
Cole will highlight the dangers of e-cigarettes and other emerging tobacco trends, and share her insight on the tactics the nicotine industry uses to attract young customers.
For those who cannot attend, the presentation will be filmed by Sudbury TV and made available on-demand online.
Enjoy the weekend,
Jeff
PICTURE RETAKE DAY
Picture Retake Day will take place on Monday, December 9. Students who were absent on picture day or who are new to Curtis should have their picture taken on retake day, even if they are not placing an order. We use these pictures for the yearbook. If you would like to order pictures, please have your child pick up an order envelope in the front office. Students should have the completed order envelope and payment with them on Retake Day. There will be NO grace period for collecting late orders.
If you would like your child to have their picture retaken (the original photos should be delivered shortly before Thanksgiving), your child must bring their COMPLETE order envelope (partial print orders will not be replaced) and give it to the photographer on retake day. All pictures included in the original order must be in the envelope. Important: There will be no choice between the first set of photos and the retaken photos.
If you have any questions, please email Suzanne Lucey.

CURTIS AMAZON WISH LIST - A GREAT WAY TO SPREAD HOLIDAY CHEER AND SUPPORT OUR SCHOOL!
Just in time for the holiday season, the CPO has set up an Amazon wish list with Curtis teacher and staff requests. From K-Cups to classroom materials, there is a lot to choose from across grades, UAs, and staff offices! The wish list is a great way to show your appreciation to teachers, staff, and teams!
Items are delivered directly to Curtis - no gift wrapping required, so it's an easy and convenient way to give! However, PLEASE EDIT THE GIFT RECEIPT during checkout to include the recipient's name so that we can get your gift to the intended recipient! Many teachers request similar items, and the boxes often arrive with no information, so please make this quick edit so that we know who gets what! Lastly, because families give in different ways, the idea of the wish list is that it is anonymous.
Thank you for supporting our teachers and staff! The wish list can be found here and will be updated continually as new items are added. Questions? Reach out to wishlists@curtiscpo.org.
CURTIS CARES GIFT CARD DRIVE
Several years ago the staff at Curtis initiated a program, Curtis Cares, designed to help Curtis families who may be experiencing financial difficulty. Since then, we have been able to give back and help many families with necessary items such as gas, groceries, winter clothing, and holiday expenses. Each year the staff collected money and purchased gift cards that were helpful to those families. Recently, we invited Curtis families to contribute gift cards as well, and you responded quickly and generously!
Curtis Cares is again seeking gift card donations of any amount. Gift cards to the following stores are most helpful:
Target
Walmart
TJ Maxx
Mall gift cards
Grocery stores (Market Basket, Shaw’s, Stop & Shop, Sudbury Farms)
Gas cards
Drugstore cards (CVS, Rite-Aid)
Gift card donations can be dropped off in the Curtis front office (no cash or checks). We would appreciate any gift card donations by Monday, December 9th so we have adequate time to distribute them.
Please email Emily Ambeau, School Adjustment Counselor, or you may call her at 978-443-1071 ext. 7149 with any questions or if your family would benefit from help through the Curtis Cares Gift Card Fund. You may also contact your child’s school counselor with questions or to request assistance:
Terry Miller, 6th grade counselor x7513
Alyssa O’Hare, 7th grade counselor x7510
Ivar Henningson, 8th grade counselor x7511
All inquiries and gift card distributions are kept confidential.
Thank you for your generosity,
The Curtis Cares Team
