Hundreds of Israeli Police swarmed a makeshift Palestinian protest camp, taking activists into custody for questioning. They were later released. The reason for the clearing was that Israel had intended to build settlements in the area. This is problematic, however, because many leaders saw this would slice the West Bank in two, separating it from the potential Palestinian capital of East Jerusalem. Rabbi Aryeh Azriel, Israeli Rabbi currently in Nebraska believes Hagel will be a friend to Israel because overall, when he had to make tough choices, he continuously did what he could for Israel. Want to read more?

The Idan Raichel Project

Idan Raichel, the creator and leader of the Project, began his musical journey by inviting collaborations from artists of different generations, multiple ethnicities and singing in languages as diverse as Hebrew, Spanish, Arabic, Amharic and Swahili. The resulting albums shattered sales records in Israel, and sold over half a million records.
Community Education Day on Israeli Arab Issues

The Third Annual Community Education Day will explore the social, educational and economic issues facing Arab citizens of Israel and highlight efforts by the Israeli government and the NGO community to address those issues. Featured speakers include Aiman Seif, Office of the Prime Minister, Government of Israel; Sigal Shelach, American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee; Forsan Husein, CEO, Jerusalem International YMCA; Shuruk Ismail, Yad Hanadiv (the Rothschild Foundation); and Prof. Elie Rekhess, Northwestern University.
