A Note From Mrs. Waters
We will be going on a field trip on January 29 to the Al Khor Animal Park as a part of our new science unit. More information went home today on a blue paper in your child's green home folder along with a permission slip to sign and retune to school. Please let me know as soon as possible if you would like to be a chaperone on the field trip. We only have room for one parent to ride the bus. However, you could follow in your car. Attached to this email are Field Trip Guidelines for Volunteers.
Kindness Week (January 21 - 25):
Student council is promoting Kindness Week, a time to focus on how our actions affect others. Students will be participating in a Kindness Challenge, where they try to complete activities, such as smiling at 25 people, asking a friend to play, loaning a pencil to someone...etc. The challenge paper will go home as homework on Sunday. Please encourage your child to complete the tasks and send it back next Thursday. There will also be several spirit weeks coming up in the next month. Dressing up for these days is optional. Please see the schedule below.

Below you will see what we will be working on in our class next week, information from the office and other important dates.
Reading
Students will learn about nonfiction text features, such as table of contents labels, captions, and glossaries.
Writing
Math
Students will use data collection to sort and organize information on a graph, and then they will ask and answer questions about the data. This will be the last week of this unit, so they will take the unit text as well.

Arabic Book Fair
The Arab Mothers Association will be holding the 2018 Arabic Book Fair starting Monday, January 22nd through to Thursday, January 25th. A wide range of of books, which include the best and latest educational titles from leading authors in the Arab world and specifically local authors in Qatar, will be available in the Elementary School Presentation Room with prices ranging from QR 5 to QR60.
The Book fair will run every day next week, on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday between 7.45am and 3.30pm and on Tuesday from 7.45am to 3.30pm. Parents are welcome to visit school at their convenience during these times. Students attending MSA and AFL will have the opportunity to visit the book fair to purchase books during one of their scheduled AFL/MSA lessons. An information sheet has been sent home to all AFL and MSA students.
This is a reminder that if your child is unwell, please keep him/her at home to recuperate.
This includes fever, stomach ache, vomiting or diarrhea.
If you child has fever, he/she has to be fever-free for 24 hours without any fever-reducing medication before he/she can return to school

Lost and Found
Lost items will be in the bins outside the elementary cafeteria and also be displayed on tables in the breezeway between the lower and upper elementary buildings all of next week, January 21st – 25th. All uncollected items will be donated to Qatar Charity at the end of next week. P
After School Activity Pick Up
Students are dismissed from Gate 6. Students who are not picked up by 4:10 pm are brought to the ES Office to be supervised until parents arrive.
Lower Elementary Principal’s Coffee
Our next Lower Elementary Principals’ Coffee is scheduled for Wednesday, January 31st, 2018 at 8:05 in ES Cafeteria. Our Lower Elementary Counselors, Ms. Zoe Gare and Ms. Makiko Maeyama will be presenting information about child protection procedures at ASD and related student learning in our guidance curriculum.
We will be holding a Parent Forum during the second part of this Principals’ Coffee. If parents have topics, feedback or questions that they would like to put forth for agenda consideration please ask them to forward to us at LESParentForum@asd.edu.qa by 9 am on Sunday, January 28th.
