Message from Mr. Tejkl
"Together..."
Good morning!
Tick, tick, tick...the time seems to fly when you are having fun right? or is it just when there are many activities together that we continue to push through as well? Either way, it has been an amazing ride and one that we will finish with a bang. We were able to send our seniors out with a service project, our 8th graders learned about the ways of an entrepreneur and the challenges that come from that as well as the many opportunities for all of our students that they have in and out of the classroom. It is something that shouldn't be taken lightly and one that all should want to do at some point!
I hope you all had a great Easter and a great Easter break. As we look forward, we are coming quickly to the end but have many opportunities to make the most of our time as well as improving each day!
We have had many quotes about reflection over this school year and I ask you to do it again. How have we been doing? We start off the new year with excitement and new adventure. We get a few months in and reshift our goals. As we progress into February, we wonder what the future will be fore us. April rolls around and there are thoughts of "oh lord, we have a month left." But where are we when it comes to being together?
We have our shares of triumphs and our shares of lows. One thing we can count on is the person or buddy next to us that can bring a smile to our face and perspective needed to clear one's mind. We may not always agree with how things are ran, how things are taught, how things are perceived but one thing that is for sure is that it is a process to stay together.
That is what makes our world a great place. WE can disagree with people but have the respect to see how things play out. If things work out, then fantastic! If things need adjustment, fantastic too! We shouldn't fear the unknown and we should have the ability to trust those who make the decisions that they are doing so in the spirt of our mission and our vision. If it doesn't workout perfect, no problem. Let's reflect and make it better.
We have had challenging days, weeks and perhaps months. We came together as ONE. We have continued our progress together through our journey and we are continuing to work together for each other's success. I would like to think that most of the things we are doing are doing what is best for our students and for our district. I feel confident that we have improved together more than fell short throughout the year as well. Take time to appreciate what you have done and how far you have come as well. I'm proud of all of you from our staff, to our students, to our parents and to our communities...we have continued to bring our best each day and give what we can to make SRC the best it can be!
Have a great rest of your Monday!
Quote of the week to reflect on:
"Coming together is the beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success."

Do you have events coming up? (Community)
When "The Dude" speaks, you listen
"I think the gift of time is possibly the most precious commodity we can offer. I have taught many families through the years and teaching from the oldest to the youngest siblings in a family unit holds a high honor.
I have had those instances of teaching the children of the parents I have instructed over the years. That is how a great relationship is built.
If a student has a problem, just being there to listen, offer advice, or add a few dollars towards necessities to help them achieve greatness in a safer environment. Most never forget an act of kindness that was extended towards them." #ilovepublicschools #feelthelovefriday

Being There
"As a superintendent, I pride myself on being in the hallways, getting in classrooms when I can, and also attending as many events that our students are a part of.
Sometimes you can see students who have a look like something isn't right. I appreciate that they will come to me when I call them over to ask them what is going on or how can I help.
It may be something that is out of my control but I believe they appreciate that someone is willing to ask what is going on or offer help. This shows them that it is okay to talk about what is on their mind and to also reach out to others who may be feeling down and out." #ilovepublicschools #feelthelovefriday

Making memories
"Some of the memories that make me the proudest to be in the field of education come from behind the scenes of the regular school day. It's the teamwork and the dedication from teachers before school, after school, or during the summer. It's the laughs in the back-to-school aisles when we run into each other because we just can't help but buy extra crayons, scissors, folders, and notebooks for students who may not have them.
It's the camaraderie from teachers and staff getting together to make tutus after school ensuring students have an awesome and unforgettable 2.22.22. Going above and beyond is something that just comes naturally for so many educators and here at Shelby-Rising City we are lucky to have the best!" #ilovepublicschools #feelthelovefriday

Principal
What is your Why?
"My greatest moments include seeing my former students as adults and hearing about their lives. My favorite was when a student told me that "math is no fun, but you somehow make it bearable!"
The number of relationships I have built over the years with students make each day worthwhile in the classroom. I love math and I get so excited when my students get the light bulb to click!" #ilovepublicschools #feelthelovefriday
Becky Schueth,
High School Math
Why I love teaching!
"I had a 1st-grade student who would refuse to work and would get mad. The classroom teacher would try to talk to him but he would only get more upset. He would often come to my room to calm down and get some work done.
One day he saw I had a blanket and put it over the table. He said it was too bright in my room and proceeded to go under the table. Then, after a few minutes, he asked for his work. I asked him how he was going to see his paper and he wasn't sure. I asked if a flashlight would work and he said yes and completed his work.
When he went back to class, we shared this with the classroom teacher. She then covered one of her tables for him to do his homework when the lights were too bright. While this worked most of the time, there was one day that was really bad.
He came into my room to work and all of a sudden started tossing chairs, desks, and everything off my shelves. I took the other students to my office and shut the door and asked a para and another teacher to stay as support. I had to calm him so we sat on the floor. While we were on the floor and he started to calm down, I asked him what was wrong. He said he was hot.
So, I asked the other teacher to grab a fan and we set it so that it was blowing on him. As we continued sitting there, he told me that when his temperature changes he gets mad and can't control it. So, we came up with a plan when this starts to happen that he could use the fan in the classroom or my room to cool down. He started doing better in school and made me realize that knowing your students well helps you to be a better teacher." #ilovepublicschools #feelthelovefriday

What stands out to you?
"During our book fair this year, two school employees had donated money so students who could not afford books could buy them. This is in addition to our Husky Heart program, which was funded by our change war. The two employees put their faith in me to identify those kids and put the money to good use.
One day, we had a student who was browsing, and they had that look in their eye. I didn't know about that student's situation at the time. Because of the donations of two employees, I was able to tell that student they could pick out some books from the fair. That student was so touched that they cried, and even wrote a thank you note to the donors. We were able to help many students through their donations. However, this one was particularly touching." #ilovepublicschools #feelthelovefriday
