A Time For Reflection
We are actively working on what our student experience will look like next year. Your voice is important for us to continue to move towards a more focused learning environment based on our learner’s needs. As you may be aware, we are in the middle of working through the strategic design process in order to develop our mission and vision. As you know, I like to say that “We are all in this together,” as we are all working towards building a unique educational experience with the learner at the center. Developing a mission and vision of our program will help us better articulate what “this” is!
In conversations with learning coaches and staff, we have started to identify our core values for our curriculum, instruction, assessment, and environment. In the next few weeks we will be solidifying these and discussing with learning coaches, along with opportunities for Learning coaches to reflect on this year as we build next year’s experience.
I invite learning coaches to join me the first week of May to do exactly that. I will be scheduling our last coffee chat of the year for LCs to share glows and grows of the year. While we are not done with the school year, we want to make sure we are taking time to reflect on what we all have done well and where we can improve. One area where we know we can improve on is LC support and engagement. We want to continue to grow in this area, so we can ensure that all LCs feel equipped, prepared, and confident in their roles of supporting their learners. Our current LCs will be an integral part in identifying what and how this looks like. Please take some time in the next few weeks to reflect and be ready to share how we can continue to work together as we start looking ahead to the fall.

On Tuesday, we had the opportunity to participate in a Skype call with Three Oaks Farm in Maryland. Students learned about the animals on this farm and most importantly we all decided that we would like to have an alpaca as a pet!
Please join me for Math Clubs on Monday, this will be our last one! Keep working on your K12 Curriculum., I know there are some students who have finished or are close to finishing different courses. Let me know if you have any questions.

The students have been doing a wonderful job focusing on their individual learning goals in Reading. Each student set a reading focus area and shared that goal with their parents at conferences. In class, the students read during silent reading time with their learning goal in mind. They then write in response to reading using a graphic organizer of their choice. I have seen so much growth and maturity from them during this time!
In Hands on Equations in math we are learning about using inverse variables to solve and evaluate equations! Wow, right?!? Math clubs will be ending this week on April 16! We’ve had so much fun and I have loved seeing how differently the kids think!
We have 6 weeks left in the school year, so our K12 work should be nearing the end. I recommend doing a quick progress check to make sure you are on track to finish before the last week of school. We will be checking technology into the school during their last face to face session the week of May 22-24. As always, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!
