Student Led Conferences March 24

Notifying Parents:
1. Each Adviser should call their advisement class parents to invite them to Parent Conferences on March 24.
2. In elementary, please be sure that you are calling key parents for the student led conferences.
Student Led Conferences Procedure
1. Please be sure that you are completing the forms needed as per your team. SEventh and eighth grade are putting everything in Google Classroom, HIgh School is using paper, Elementary, please check with your team leaders.
2. Please be sure you are practicing with the students both in your classroom and in advisory.
3. Each teacher needs to be sure that they are aware of the google calendar that is created for high school and middle school.
Administration support
Each pod is going to be supported by a staff member. Here are the assignments
1st Floor Blue, Yellow, Green- Tracy Bishop's staff and Deb Pendley
1st Floor Orange Pod-Erik Thomas
2nd Floor Blue Pod- Melissa Green
2nd Floor Orange Pod- Amy Estepp
2nd Floor Green Pod- Jason Dearwester

The person assigned to the pod area are to look at the calendar and schedule parents. They could speak with them about various aspects of the school such as reviewing optioning, reviewing child's grades, reviewing items about Riverview. Yellow Pod second floor- Science Teachers should position themselves in other pods. Mr. Smith and Ms. Britt have small numbers of families that this should not be an issue.

Belated Welcome Back

Belated Welcome back to Ms. Lenhof and Ms. Dohme. Ms. Lenhof is back from maternity leave, and Ms. Dohme is also back with us on half days. Welcome back.

Preparing for testing and computers

  • Ms. Bohmer has sent everyone a survey about computers. Please be sure that you are answering the survey so that we can properly plan for testing.
  • We are going to plan on doing some tests to the network to put all students from Grades 3-12 on the network at the same time. Tentatively, we want to try it during second bell (10:25) on Wednesday of next week. We want to see if we have all computers used, can we function on the network.
  • Tentatively, we will be testing on April 13 and 14 for ELA. The rest of the testing calendar will be out by next Monday including the optioning schedule. We are trying to shut the building down and test. That is our goal. We will post more info about Math and Science and Social Studies, but we all know the most important subject already has a plan:).
  • Please note, we are trying to plan ahead, but if we notice a challenge, we will deal with it and try to right course as quickly as possible. Our norm of being a solution maker not a problem causer would be helpful during this time.
  • We are planning an assembly with the students on April 12th. Please note, more information will follow.

Learning Teams Next Week- Parent Conferences Next Week

Please note, that we have a jammed pack week next week. We need everyone 100% if possible. We have Staff Meeting on Tuesday, Learning Teams on Wednesday, Parent Conferences on Thursday. Please make sure you are reading the requirement for the Mindset Book. Also, the next night, is Parent Conferences. Please finish strong. Special Breakfast Treat from administration will be available on Wednesday morning. Please come by the 7:25 time. Thank you for all that you do to help us finish strong.

Optioning

We are going to option right after Spring Break. We do not want to run into testing. Please be sure to complete the teacher recs. We are trying to get these two things done before testing. Please be sure to meet the timelines set. We need the recs by March 25 if possible.

State visit for the 21st Century Grant is APRIL 7TH. Save the date. They will be reviewing our tutoring program and our morning literacy. All hands on deck.

Operation Hawk and Passes

We need your help. Students need passes or planners when they are out of the classroom for any reason. We are going to start Operation Hawks in the middle of bells. Please do not send students out unless they have a pass. Students DO NOT need to leave seventh bell to return their computers prior to the bell. Please help.

Advisory Update NEW

If your class got bumped out of taking the survey, please use advisory time to take it. The suggestion is that 7-8 take it on Friday, 9-10 take it when we return- Tuesday the 5 and 11/12 take it on the 8th. If you have already done so, thank you so much.

THIS IS THE LINK. Students also got a copy of it in email.

http://www.advanc-ed.org/survey/public/4414281

All students 7-12 should take the survey. The survey counter will determine which students have taken the survey. Please be sure to review this with your students.

We are working on how to get the elementary students to take the survey. Thank you for getting this done.

Staff Attendance

Please note, there are legitimate reasons why people are out of school, but it is truly hard on the students and on your colleagues. A few things to consider:
1. Not your problem, but we are having an increasingly difficult time getting subs. This is a district problem. Almost every principal mentions this as a big issue.
2. Your colleagues are often picking up the pace when you are absent. Please consider them.
3. If you have been absent more than ten days, you may be required to provide a doctor's note. Please read CBA page 35.
4. If you are telling us your reason for absence is of a personal nature, you must use personal leave. You cannot tell us your refrigerator broke down, and you need a sick day. That is not a reason for a sick day.
5. According to the Staff Handbook, no more than three personal leave days will be approved on a particular day. Please note, March 25 has reached that limit.

Above all, be healthy, and take steps to ensure that you are healthy, but be patient when you return as you were missed by your colleagues and students. When you return it is often like starting the whole year over again. Students sometimes feel betrayed that "you left them." We all know that is not your intention, but please be patient. Thank you.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Penny Harris who earned her Lead Teacher credentials. Good Luck to Penny.

Cycle 2 Evaluations

As a reminder, we are starting unannounced evaluations. Teachers need to provide their lesson plans or upload within 24 hours. Administrators can view lesson plans at the time of lessons. Please also note, that below there is an outline of the state requirements. We will be still completing those as well. Please follow directions as stated.

Learning Teams- Literacy Night Follow Up

Tracy Bishop is going to be meeting with team leaders and leaders of the various learning teams to follow up with the great suggestions that you submitted. If further work is needed, we may call a meeting next week during team time to solidify plans. We will provide at least 24 hours notice. Thanks for all that you do to make our school great.

Leadership Scholars Parent Academy

Leadership Scholars Parent Academy: The Parent Academy is beginning on Tuesday, March 8th. This means that the cafeteria will be used starting at 5:00. This year's program is geared towards high school students. Parents from grades 5 -12 were called and encouraged to attend the program. Please do what you can to encourage parents to attend this academy. It helps our parents with valuable information. Additionally, the following caller went out on Sunday night:

Parents,

This is Mrs. Myers calling to remind you of our first Leadership Scholars Night which begins on Tuesday, March 8th. We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday to take part in this great program. This program helps parents learn about ways to ensure your child's access to college and other opportunities. Please consider coming out to learn about this program. Dinner, babysitting and transportation are all provided. Please consider attending..

Please help with uniform enforcement, and the small things to help us avoid the big things :)

Mindset Classroom

Please complete an answer to the new Mindset Classroom. It is about feedback. Meant to give time in the faculty meeting, but time got the best of me. Please complete and share.

Sing a Song

Please consider completing the Sing a Song sheet. We are trying to learn about each other as people and this is a fun way to do it. Please consider completing. Please give it to Pat if you get it done. Thanks again.

Path C Grant

We have been approached to seek a Path C Grant with the State of Ohio for our students in grades 7-12. Basically, it is a grant that would allow us to receive 200,000 per year to provide students in this grade band with activities beyond the classroom time. It would also allow us to seek a Reading Specialist for the high school and tutors and other staff that we desperately need. LSDMC approved this grant.

PLEASE DO NOT LET STUDENTS OUT EARLY DURING SEVENTH BELL TO RETURN COMPUTERS. THEY NEED TO DO IT WHEN THE BELL RINGS. STUDENTS ARE NOT TO BE DISMISSED BEFORE THE BELL.
