A Note from Mrs. Chapman: MJH Veterans Day Parade

This year, we are not able to celebrate Veterans Day on campus like we have each year due to social distancing and the health and safety of our students, teachers, and Veterans. However, on November 11, we will have a Veterans Day parade starting at 12:00 p.m. at the start of the car rider line to honor our Veterans. If you plan to attend, please meet at the KOA at 11:45 a.m. to be escorted to the parade. Our Veterans will stay in their vehicles and drive around our car rider line as our entire student body shows their support. If you or a family member are a Veteran, we invite you to come and let us thank you for your loyal service and dedication to our country.

P.S. We would love for our students to wear red, white, and blue this day!

A Note from our Counselors

PSAT DATE CHANGE to Nov. 19, 2020

For all 8th grade students that registered for the PSAT, the date has been changed to Thursday, Nov. 19, due to our new Wednesday late arrival schedule.

If your family needs holiday assistance, please contact Mrs. Stewart by November 11th. We have partnered with two local churches and we are working with the counselors at other MISD schools so that an entire family is taken care of by one school. Please call or e-mail Mrs. Stewart at tressie.stewart@misd.org or 936-276-3320 with questions.

We also have 200 library books that have not been brought back to school since remote learning. Your child has been made aware if they still have a book out. They can not check out another book until their book is brought back or paid for.

SOCIAL MEDIA:

Social Media Awareness Resource:

Collin Kartchner speaks around the country educating parents and teenagers on the dangers of Social Media - Save The Kids and Save.The.Parents on Instagram is a resource shared by parents in our community. If you follow his Save.the.Parents on Instagram watch his highlights, they are incredibly difficult to watch, but it made me and some of our parents so much more aware of what information our kids may be exposed to. It takes an educated and united community to keep our kids safe!

Additionally – fyi regarding items that your child may share on social media:

-check your student’s phone or contact your service provider to show you how to monitor if and when pics are sent

Lunch Visitors

At this time and until further notice, MISD campuses are closed to lunch visitors. In addition, students are not allowed to have lunch delivered to the campus. Deliveries to students including lunches will be limited and on an emergency basis only. Students forgetting lunches will be allowed to charge a meal in the cafeteria.

MJH Parent/Student Handbook

The Parent-Student Handbook will be available on the MJH website. We encourage you to become familiar with the information contained in the handbook. Forms such as Release of Picture/Directory Information, Medication for the Nurse, Change of Address/Phone Number, and Technology Agreement are found at the back of the Handbook.

Transportation

We ask that you make every effort to request transportation changes prior to 1:30 p.m. in order for us to be certain that your student leaves in the correct manner. You may make changes by:

1. Sending a note with your child;

2. Faxing with a photo of your I.D. to 936-276-3301. Please include your student’s first & last name on any change. Emails or texts to teachers, phone calls to the front desk, and student-relayed messages are not requests that we honor for safety reasons.

· MJH CAR RIDER LINE/BUS POLICY

Due to the continued growth of MISD, we will no longer allow extra riders to ride the bus routes. Only registered riders will be allowed on the bus routes. We highly encourage students to car-pool to school due to the high volume of traffic and limited parking during the morning hours.
